An opportunity for a SHE Assistant has become available at our Snackworks Isando Factory, reporting directly to the SHE Officer.
The purpose of the role will be to ensure compliance to all Health, Safety and Environment aspects at the site. Duties & Responsibilities Assist the SHE (Safety, Health and Environmental) Officer with all aspects of business system activities.
Collating and compiling daily, weekly and monthly reports
Logging of all NC’s, audit findings, complaints and compliments on Shopware and on the intranet reporting system
Conduct evacuation and environmental emergency exercises as planned by the Safety, Health and Environmental Officer.
Conduct safety, health and environmental audits as per internal audit schedule
Conduct daily inspection of the waste area using a checklist and ensure that good housekeeping is maintained.
Prepare and distribute Safety, Health and Environmental topics to employees and ensure that training registers are completed and filed
Conduct SHE induction to new employees and contractors
Conduct weekly inspections on all contractors working on-site
Ensures that contractors safety files are kept up to date with relevant and accurate records
Ensure that all mini risk assessment, safe work permits are received from all stakeholders and are kept on file
Keep up to date the environmental aspect and risk assessment registers
Assist the SHE Officer to supervise the site security to ensure that security management procedures are in place and adhered to.
Ensure that all legal appointment letters are up to date
Ensure that SHE incident investigations are conducted, the root causes are identified and follow-up actions are completed.
Conducting of job observations as per internal schedule
Assist with preparing and participation of external SHE and Marsh audits
Facilitate SHE competitions and attend communication meetings
Maintain and keep up to date system procedures as per ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001
Assist the SHE Officer to do a smooth transition from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001
General administration work
Ensure that the site complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and it’s Regulations
Attends health and safety meetings and effectively discusses and deals with relevant issues and items
Maintaining set targets related to site safety (DIFR, Near misses)
Basic knowledge of ISO 2200 standard
Ability to facilitate and manage SHE management system
Keep and track submission of safety reps inspection registers
Perform any other reasonable tasks assigned by the SHE Officer Competencies Working With People

Adapting and Responding to Change Experience Required At least 3 years' experience as a Health & Safety Assistant within the FMCG / Manufacturing environment
Experience working in a unionised environment essential Minimum Qualifications Required Grade 12
SAMTRAC or similar SH&E / Risk Management qualification
National Diploma or BTech in Safety Management Knowledge Required National Building Regulations
