Specific Roles and Responsibilities :

Prior to arriving a TA must :

  • Assist his / her Head Teacher in creating the course curriculum. A TA’s approximate workload for this task should be between 2 and 5 hours per week, for each week that the Head Teacher is creating the curriculum.
  • Once classes have begun, a TA is expected to take an active role in delivering course material and assisting students in their learning journey.

    Specifically, a TA is required to :

  • Teach class for between 2 and 4 hours per week (out of 15 hours total class hours per week).
  • Actively participate in class activities and discussions, and seek out and help any students who need assistance.
  • Hold office hours for 2 to 3 hours each weekday.
  • Make themselves available, by appointment, for additional help periods if need be.
  • Review and provide feedback to students on homework assignments within 48 hours of the assignment’s due date.
  • Provide feedback on students’ progress to his / her Head Teacher, including any issues that arise.
  • Work with the Head Teacher to edit course content as the session progresses, if necessary.
  • A TA will work with the Internship Coordinator to place his / her students in internships that best fit each student’s development needs and goals.

    Exact responsibilities may vary depending on the Internship Coordinator’s system of matching students and internships.

    A TA has a responsibility to get to know his / her students outside of the classroom setting. While TAs are encouraged to bond with their students through informal means (for instance, through meals with students), at a minimum TAs are required to :

  • Hold one-on-one coffee chats with each of his / her students in the first week of class.
  • Work with the Head Teacher to organize two class bonding outings per session (using class funds provided by company).
  • TAs are expected to play an active role in the broader community. Specifically, a TA must :

  • Teach one elective workshop open to the college community and on a topic of his / her choosing per session. Elective workshops take place for one afternoon / evening.
  • Be a pal group leader. Pal groups are groups of students from a variety of classes. They are formed for the purpose of easing our students’ transition to the classes.
  • A pal group leader is responsible for organizing events at the beginning of the session that facilitate bonding amongst the group.

    Job Description

    At the end of four weeks of class, some Teaching Assistants will transition into the role of Intern Coach. Intern Coaches work with the same group of students for whom they served as a Teaching Assistant.

    For instance, someone who served as Product Management TA will work with his / her former PM students once those students start their internships.

  • An Intern Coach has two main areas of responsibility : first, to provide technical and practical internship support for our students;
  • and second, to assist our students in career planning. Detailed roles and responsibilities can be found below.

    Specific Roles and Responsibilities

    From an internship support perspective, an Intern Coach is expected to provide :

  • Technical support. This might include, but is not limited to, assisting our students with : coding, business strategy formulation, financial analysis, and presentation preparation.
  • Practical support. This might include, but is not limited to : counseling students on how to navigate the workplace (e.
  • g. conflict resolution, managing upwards); and alerting the Internship Coordinator when his / her involvement is deemed desirable or necessary.

    Though there is flexibility in how an Intern Coach should provide technical and practical support, at bare minimum the Intern Coach must :

  • Conduct weekly check-ins with each student. These may be conducted via email, phone, or in person.
  • Conduct check-ins with each student’s manager at the beginning, midpoint, and conclusion of the internship period. These may be conducted via email, phone, or in person.
  • From a career planning perspective, an Intern Coach must work with each student to produce the following items by the end of the internship period :

  • A revised resume, including sections on the student’s class and internship.
  • A plan for internship / job recruiting once the student leaves, including a list of firms to which the student should apply.
  • Cover letter templates for the student’s industries of interest.
  • In addition, the Intern Coach must provide the following career services to his / her students :

  • Weekly interview prep workshops, discussing both the technical (e.g. coding interviews, consulting case interviews) and behavioral components of interviewing.
  • One-on-one interview coaching, by appointment.
  • TA would need to have some industry knowledge and educational background on the coursework being taught. Ideally studying towards a post graduate degree with one of the below majors.

  • Position is based in Cape Town, South Africa for the duration of the course. (Travel to and accomodation in Cape Town is not covered by the company as is to come out of candidates remuneration.)

    Courses run over 6 weeks and there are 2 back to back courses run over a 12 week period

    Ideally candidates should be available for the 12 week duration - but could possibly be available for each session individually.
