CFO - Chief Financial Officer

Job Purpose : The Chief Financial Officer shall have fiduciary responsibility for the safekeeping and use of all funds and assets of uShaka MARINE WORLD as well as planning and directing the systems of accounting.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with the applicable accounting framework and intent of the policies and procedures of uShaka MARINE WORLD.

Education :

  • Tertiary education in Finance or Certificate in Municipal Financial Management ((SAQA qualification ID No. 48965) with relevant financial technical skills gained through related experience;
  • CA (SA) qualification preferred;
  • Masters qualification in administration or leadership will be an added advantage
  • Experience

  • 10 years’ working experience, of which 5 years should be in Financial Management (At a Senior Management Level).
  • Responsibilities :

  • Guides accounting functions with overall responsibility for developing and maintaining an efficient accounting service operation;
  • Interprets operating results as they affect the financial aspects of uShaka MARINE WORLD and makes specific recommendations, which will result in cost reductions and profit improvement, for board evaluation;
  • Assumes overall accountability for the correct and accurate accounting classification of all expenditures and documents, including capital and others;
  • Steers the preparation of internal and external financial statements;
  • Accountable for the internal accounting and administrative controls to ensure that all transactions are handled correctly;
  • Co-ordinate long-range plans and budget requirements to ensure that departmental and corporate goals and objectives are met;
  • Responsible for all procedures and activities of the ticketing department;
  • Responsible for all procedures and activities of the procurement department;
  • Responsible to assist the compliance department;
  • Responsible for all procedures and activities of the Information Technology department;
  • Responsible for managing the Financial Manager who is responsible for all procedures and all activities of the accounts, cash office and payroll;
  • Maintains all internal and external audit relationships;
  • Acts as the immediate contact for Corporate, Independent and all government regulatory agencies on all accounting and financial matters;
  • Maintains all banking and other financial service relationships;
  • Monitors and reviews the performance of direct reports and approves performance appraisals initiated by them;
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and practices within area of responsibility and communicates pertinent information to crew members;
  • Ensures effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility by informing crew members of plans and progress and by conducting employee discussion sessions at regular intervals.
