Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
Responsible to lead an investigation team to identify problems which may arise
Responsible to lead the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment team
Performing departmental audits as required
Develop and manage safety systems and risk management programmes and systems.
Implementing objectives and target settings while setting high work standards & performance
Required to adapt to the working environment with good communication skills
Ensuring company improvement at all times by coordinating and taking control of the area
Utilise initiative and make decisions whilst implementing strong supervision skills
Lead and coordinate achievement, implementation and maintenance of SHE Systems & Certifications
Handle conflict as needed and managing the performance of the team / employees
Investigate problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals and grievances.
According to circumstances, provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental officials and individuals.
Establish and maintain good relationships between Managers and staff
Ensure alignment with legal and clients’ requirements
National Diploma in Safety Management
Hazard & Risk Assessment certificate
Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) qualification
COMSOC 1,2 or 3C / SAMTRAC
5+ yrs relevant working experience
Sound knowledge of Mine Health & Safety Act and OHS Act
ISO14001 will be an added advantage
Supervisory certificate or related qualification
Valid driver’s licence & own vehicle
Around 4-7 years open cast mining safety working experience
3-4 Years experience as a Senior Safety Officer within the mining environment
Preference will be given to residents within the area or surrounding areas
