The Wealth and Investment Management business unit is looking for an International Investment Advisor

  • The nature of the client base is international / offshore investors and can be extremely complex covering a range of currencies, tax, economic and legal regimes, regulatory environments and complex personal situations.
  • This makes the demands of providing investment and savings advice, usually on a remote basis, with investments within a strongly regulated framework very challenging.

  • In addition the jobholder must be able to put clients at their ease and obtain relevant information regarding their financial affairs, making clients feel that they are receiving a personal service and not being sold to’.
  • The incumbent must identify suitable clients, developing sales opportunities of complex products. This requires a high degree of analysis of the clients situation, and an in depth assessment of their financial attitudes (e.

    g. to risk) and objectives. Provides Investment and Savings recommendations to clients (who include non-resident & / or foreign nationals & / or expatriates) across ABSA and Absa in house’ product range to achieve specified sales targets and generate agreed income levels.

    Promote the wider range of ABSA Wealth and ABSA Wealth products, referring clients to other parts of the Absa Group as applicable.

    Delivers a high and efficient level of service across a broad in house investments and savings product range. Increasing Absa staff awareness of the services offered by Absa Wealth International, including coaching of branch business introducers.

  • Bachelor Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Sales management,
  • CFP would be preferable
  • The job holder must have experience of or at least be at ease with clients from differing social, religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years in a frontline customer contact role, preferably with previous exposure to a wide range of client segments
  • Proven track record in a corporate environment
  • Knowledge & Skills :

  • It is essential that the job holder has detailed and technical knowledge of the AWI Banking propositions.
  • An understanding of international banking processes e.g. SWIFT
  • A sound knowledge of Exchange Control regulations in South Africa.
  • Good presentation skills
  • Solid sales skills
  • Detailed awareness of DPA / CCA / FSA and equivalent local legislation, to ensure compliance with the Bank’s local regulators and PIA’s regulatory requirements, including regulations relating to the jobholders’ investment / financial advice responsibilities;
  • Good knowledge of global, economic, political conditions, current affairs and competitor activity;
  • A good knowledge of the Bank’s global representation and correspondent network, the Bank’s Global Premier network and an awareness of the Bank’s international trade products.
  • Computer literacy and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software i.e. Word, Outlook / outlook express and IE.
  • Negotiating & Selling skills

  • Excellent Communication skills (verbal and Non-verbal)
  • Good administrative skills
  • Must have own transport
  • Be willing to travel internally within SA.
