Are you an experienced Manager with proven experience in implementing relief and rehabilitation projects in a humanitarian context?
An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our Middle East Programme for a Deputy Country Director, based in Erbil, Iraq.
Tearfund have over forty years' experience of responding to the emergency of disasters : floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and the misery caused by slow-
onset disasters such as food crises or conflict. We implement Tearfund disaster response teams and respond directly in situations of overwhelming need, where there are no local partners, or where the scale of the emergency is too great for our partners' capacity.
Tearfund are recognised for expertise in disaster response. We're signatories of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief, certified with the Core Humanitarian Standard, members of the Disasters Emergency Committee, as well as being funding recipients for ECHO, OFDA and the START Network amongst others.
Tearfund have been operating in Iraq since 2015 and have a large, established and growing programme in the north of the country working with conflict affected host, IDP and refugee populations.
Implementing through both direct operations and through local partners, our current activities focus primarily on emergency and resettlement support in the areas of Cash / Voucher based Assistance, WASH intervention, Livelihood Programmes, Non Food Items, Protection and Social Cohesion .
The successful candidate will have relevant humanitarian and leadership experience, coupled with experience in managing security in a complex conflict environment, donor relationship cultivation and grants management, programme design, implementation and monitoring and an ability to successfully mentor, manage and develop team members.
Experience of working in complex insecure locations is absolutely essential.
Responsibilities will include assisting the Country Director in the leadership and management of Tearfund project work, having oversight of successful design, implementation and monitoring of projects, delegated responsibility for security management, assisting in developing the strategic direction for a complex programme.
It is essential that the successful candidate has extensive experience as a senior manager with an INGO, and sustained experience living and working in a complex humanitarian context.
In addition, they should have proven experience of working alongside local organisations. The candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills and be a strong negotiator and problem solver.
