About the Position

SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Leader to join our Software Engineering team. The successful incumbent will be expected to be a hands-

on Software Engineer whilst combining leadership and system architecture skills in steering software teams towards a technical vision for the Science Processing System.

Minimum education requirements :

  • NQF 7 or higher in Computer Science, Engineering (with software focus) or related field
  • Minimum work experience required :

  • 10+ years of experience in a software engineering environment, of which a minimum of 3 years' experience at technical leadership and systems architecture level
  • Duties include (but not limited to) :

  • Guide the technical design and address requirements, budget and schedule
  • Bridge the gap between design and implementation, providing leadership based on a deep technical understanding
  • Define and communicate standards, guidelines and principles to software engineers
  • Provide leadership with respect to architecture definition and evaluation with specific attention to addressing non-functional requirements
  • Collaborate with system stakeholders to ensure that the architecture will successfully integrate with its environment
  • Review and evaluate technology decisions
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of technical reviews
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, collaboration, facilitation of communication, encouragement of open dialogue, negotiation, Knowledge of when / where to compromise and when / where not to
  • Provide assistance with internal investigations and prototyping efforts, and ensure these deliver appropriate technology and architectures to satisfy requirements
  • Provide hands-on software development, including all software development lifecycle stages
