As a Service Technician, you will be part of the Robotics and Motion Division and Robotics Business Units (BU) based in Durban, South Africa.

ABB is the World leader in Robotics and Motion (RM) division offering a wide range of products and services including drives, motors, generators and robots.

Key applications include energy conversion, actuation, automation, standardized manufacturing cells for applications such as machine tending, welding, cutting, painting, finishing, palletizing and packing, and engineered systems for the automotive industry.

Tasks :

As a Service Technician you will be responsible to execute service work according to agreed work flows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines.

You will also be responsible to deliver excellent customer service to satisfy customers and in close co-operation with customer and other ABB teams, take actions to identify new Service business opportunities for ABB.

Your Tasks as a Service Technician will include the following :

  • Service delivery : Perform Service tasks, identifies technical problems and makes analysis
  • through remote or on-site activity in any Service categories (installation and commissioning, maintenance, repairs, engineering and consulting, advanced services, extensions, upgrades and retrofits, end of life services, replacements, etc.

    The Main focus of the incumbent will be to perform preventative maintenance tasks at all customers, nationally.

  • Customer approach : Contribute to customer satisfaction by executing Service work according to customer order and expectation.
  • Create and maintains a good relationship with customers and understands their needs. Identify new sales opportunities and communicates them internally.

  • Materials and supply : Coordinate, prepare and ensure that all materials, parts and equipment are available and at the appropriate quality for Service activities.
  • Documentation and reports : Prepare all documents and reports to be signed by the customer representative. Report work done in a timely manner and follows up when needed.
  • Troubleshooting : Proactively identify potential equipment failures and requests proactive corrective actions. Troubleshoot equipment failure and makes recommendations to avoid repeating the problem in the future.
  • Continuous improvement : Proactively identify suggestions for product and quality improvement and communicates them further in the ABB organization.
  • Provide recommendations to management to improve operations and customer service.

  • Health and safety : Apply safety rules and safe practices as well as environmental responsibilities. Report unsafe practices and incidents.
  • Requirements :

  • Robotics Specific Requirement : The incumbent will be responsible to perform preventative maintenance activities at our customers.
  • This will involve electrical checks, oil and grease changes as well as some cleaning activities. The incumbent will be responsible to arrange the servicing, execute as well as providing feedback to the customer.

  • Electrical qualification is a requirement.
  • Mechanical knowledge is a plus.
  • Computer literate and capable on Microsoft Office.
