Technical Division (Wadeville)


  • Assigned to specific plants as its specific Automation Technician
  • Maintain all industrial automation systems, in the assigned plants’ areas
  • Upgrade outdated or discontinued industrial Automation systems
  • Perform Loop optimisation and process optimisation in the plants, through performing verification and analysis
  • Provide technical support and advise to the specific plants’ engineer and plant manager
  • Lead the Automation aspect of plant improvements; and on projects; in the assigned plant, to maintain the latest Industrial Automation standards and to improve the plant automation systems
  • Troubleshooting of Industrial Automation’s control systems, and assisting in troubleshooting of electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics and instrumentation systems on a daily basis
  • Making improvement suggestions and driving technology migration and upgrades in the assigned plants of responsibility
  • Carry out small-medium scale systems modifications in the plant ; on the PLC,SCADA,HMI or AC / DC Drives and integration thereof
  • Serve as the Automation Lead on projects in assigned plant areas, regardless of who is managing the projects to maintain the desirable highest standard of Industrial Automation at Scaw
  • Perform periodic plant and departmental inspections on the Automation equipment as well as carry-out assigned departmental safety inspections
  • Participate in the department’s Safety improvement programs
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives and campaigns within Scaw Metals
  • Standby duties for all plants , and attend to breakdown call-outs in various plants
  • Carry-out instructions; diligently; as given by management, from time to time.
  • Adhere to, and execute departmental administration systems, such as critical administration duties that will be required from time to time and changed therefore to derive improvements and also keep imperative records
  • Qualification

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • National Diploma Engineering : Electrical (L / C) (S4)
  • Preferably in Process Instrumentation and Control Systems field
  • Experience

  • Min 5 years working experience in a relevant field involving Industrial Automation
