Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ( WHC ) is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences.
WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives.
In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
Maternal, Adolescent & Child Health (MatCH) is a division of the Wits Health Consortium under the School of Public Health of the University of the Witwatersrand.
MatCH implements donor funded projects to improve HIV and TB outcomes through providing technical assistance and direct service delivery support.
Main Purpose of the Job
To provide strategic planning, governance and management to MatCH supported programmes, overseeing the successful delivery of the programme outputs whilst overseeing institutional research activities
The incumbent acts as a pivotal point of contact for relevant stakeholders
Key Performance Areas
Lead the research programme through inter alia developing research protocols, collaborating with partners, preparing publications for submission to peer reviewed journals, presentation of research findings and dissemination of research findings to internal and external stakeholders
Manage projects whilst ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements, agreed protocols, MatCH and WHC policies and procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and the quality management plan
This encompasses all phases of the project life from conception and initiation, definition and planning, execution, budgeting, performance, quality assurance and control and reporting and evaluation
Staff mentoring, coaching and supervision including performance management and the development and maintenance of sound labour relations
Required minimum education and training
Minimum work experience
5 years relevant experience working in a similar role
Experience working with multi stakeholder projects in the public sector and communities
Demonstrated experience in managing multiple research projects as well as effective management of staff
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Post graduate Degree
Certification in good clinical practice (GCP)
Experience in project management and research
Knowledge of district and provincial DoH government structures

Strong organisational skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Relevant computer skills
Training and facilitation skills
Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Adaptable, willing to take initiative and empathetic
Keen attention to detail
Able to work in a highly pressurised environment and able to travel locally and internationally
