Introduction...

The financial accountant will be responsible for financial reporting, implementing and maintaining effective financial controls, analysis of business performance and market trends, tracking to initiatives, identification and recommendation of remedial actions and assisting with strategic planning as well as assurance (risk, compliance, governance, legal and company secretarial)

are further key factors for the successful fulfillment of this position.

Qualification

  • Qualified CA (SA) with completed articles
  • Experience in the financial service sector with extensive understanding of financial trends and market patterns.
  • Emerging markets (Africa) experience will be advantageous
  • Financial reporting

  • Complete statutory reporting packs, ensuring content is complete, accurate and meets all reporting requirements (IFRS, JSE, etc.)
  • Completion and analysis of Statement of Financial Performance and Position and explanation of variances.
  • Preparation of consolidation journals with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Financial control of balance sheet accounts (reconciliations / inter-company balances)
  • Financial statements preparation of standalone and consolidated financial statements within reporting deadlines.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of financial / business controls to test operating effectiveness.
  • Assist with system implementation e.g. ERP / Smart Stream.
  • Preparation of dashboards (flash / weekly / monthly) and reporting templates for Emerging Markets including key driver metrics and performance trend analysis.
  • Ensure adherence to month-end process deadlines to comply with Alexander Forbes Group reporting requirements.
  • Provide quality management reporting relating to business performance across Alexander Forbes Emerging Markets, trend analysis etc.
  • Ensure timeous delivery of all financial quarterly reports, Board papers and ad-hoc financial report submissions.
  • Assist with execution of ad-hoc financial projects as assigned from time to time.
  • Support regional teams with Board presentations and finance objectives.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist with the budgeting and forecast process (assisting countries on deliverables and assist with the consolidation of the final budget report and presentation).
  • Accurate computation of budget and forecast numbers for Emerging Markets into the reporting system (EPM).
  • Business analysis, intelligence and reporting

  • Perform client and product profitability analysis which include client profitability tracking against agreed plans.
  • Assist in the compilation of Board papers, Quarterly business review presentations and SENS / market reports.
  • Strategic support and implementation

  • Obtain a close understating of the external and internal environment of AFEM entities.
  • Support Business strategy formulation process and implementation.
  • Strategic analysis of alternate business lines and streams.
  • Tracking of the progress on strategic initiatives (financial and non-financial indicators).
  • Reporting on the strategic business objectives and provide the relevant reporting as required.
  • Compliance, Legal and Risk Support
  • Prepare for internal and external audits and assist in addressing queries.
  • Ensure that relevant submissions to the Risk department have been made.
  • Assist with the preparation of risk reports in collaboration with Risk team and assist with the implementation of mitigation activities.
  • Work closely with compliance to address compliance related issues across markets.
  • Maintain repository of all business contracts.
  • Support Emerging Markets in the financial reporting for Risco and other group committees.
  • System management

  • Assist with system implementations (e.g. Smart Stream / ERP).
  • Assist with structuring of accounts to enable bespoke reporting, e.g. : profitability by product and client.
