Purpose : The main purpose of this position / job is :
A passenger transport driver or bus driver is responsible for driving a passenger carrying vehicle, i.e. heavy to light passenger vehicles.
Provide good customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of bus services.
Drivers are responsible for operating in a way that ensures the safety of themselves, their passengers and the public.
Drivers are required to perform their duties in a manner that abides with the institutions operational and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
To drive the allocated vehicles in a safe, legal and professional way
To drive to the set timetable, not running early or late, when it is safe to do so
To drive University field trip and the service provider’s private hire trips,
To keep up to date with road closures, diversions or special events which may affect bus services,
To keep up to date with any changes to condition of travel infrastructure and weather
To ensure that speed limits are observed within bus depots and bus stations public roads and abnormal conditions
To check the condition of the vehicle prior to commencing service
Carrying out the safety walk round check, i.e. pre-trip and post-trip inspection
Ensuring that any defect in the vehicle or equipment is reported as soon as possible to the Transport Supervisors
To comply with the laws and company regulations regarding the use of mobile phones, smoking in company vehicles tampering with safety devices or other devices on vehicles whilst on duty.
To be responsible for the health, safety, security, welfare, environmental and fire safety arrangements for yourself, customers and colleagues.
This must include attendance at safety briefings and training as required.
To ensure all safety accidents / incidents are reported using the company’s reporting procedure.
Drivers shall not perform or attempt to perform work under the influence of Drugs and Alcohol Zero tolerance
Carry out lawful and reasonable duties required by OHS, SHEQ.
To ensure a full understanding of emergency and evacuation plans and procedures
To ensure compliance with the rules governing driving hours and rest periods
Ensure safety hazards and risks are identified and reported to the manager immediately
Valid Drivers’ License Code C or EC1 (0,4) or EC and PRDP should have passenger transport authorization
Minimum 3 years active passenger driving experience on heavy vehicles
Good driving skills and record
Good health and physical strength
Excellent communication skills
Good writing skills with the ability to compile reports
Good computer knowledge
Alertness and visual attention skills
