Accountabilities : Accountability : Finance Impairments

  • Support Business Bank Credit Risk, BB Finance, Group Finance and Business stakeholders by communicating final impairment numbers on a monthly basis and answers / resolve impairment related queries
  • Refine the models to improve the accuracy of impairments forecasts and assumptions specific to Business Bank Africa segments on an ongoing basis through the review and challenge of existing models.
  • Establish an appropriate forum for the consideration of impairment forecasting portfolio management information (MI) with all subsequent actions appropriately identified, documented and implemented.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and prioritise projects / initiatives within specific environments and ensure regular feedback to stakeholders as well as status of projects are communicated.
  • Ensure compliance to prescribed policy by liaising with policy team.
  • Accountabiliti : Reporting & MI

  • Enable analytics and an in depth understanding of the BB Africa PCRL portfolios that allows prompt and complete response to queries raised by Credit and Business Management.
  • Manage Ad-hoc queries from Credit, Finance and Business within the monthly cycle of deliverables given the monthly reporting timelines for delivery through applicable and available resources.
  • Identify MI shortfalls and drive for inclusion with the Analytics data team to enable robust and progressive portfolio analytics.
  • Strive for the automation of all standard MI reporting for the portfolio by making use of best practices.
  • Oversee / review the reporting function of the African portfolio to ensure consistent and accurate data with insightful and robust commentary.
  • Accountability : Relationship & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise and engage with various internal Stakeholders (e.g. BB Credit & Finance Management, Wholesale Credit Management, BB Exco, Group Risk & Group Finance, Africa BB Credit and Finance counterparts) to secure their respective support in the implementation of impairment strategies and also ensuring capacity exists to implement.
  • Secure support from Modelling & Analytics Team, Capabilities, MI, Business & Finance teams and HR to deliver accurate and robust MI and Impairments (analysis and figures).
  • Review and report strategy performance and trends to the BB Head Finance Impairments, PRC committees, Business Bank Impairment Governance Forum This entails presenting to the applicable forums.
  • Accountability : Governance & Compliance

  • Test and audit the implementation of models, MI and processes and provide reports to governance committees to ensure that BB Africa Credit activities and policies are compliant with the Barclays policies.
  • Ensure that there is compliance with all internal policies and procedures in the team and provide coaching and feedback on how to improve compliance through the continuous review of BB Africa Credit activities / strategies.
  • Education and Experience Required

  • B degree in Accounting / Finance / Statistics / Risk Management
  • Experience : 5 years or more Banking experience, specifically credit
  • Knowledge & Skills :

  • Knowledge of (Advanced) Impairments
  • Knowledge of (Advanced) Relevant Impairment Modelling
  • Financial analysis and interpretation skills (Solid)
  • Knowledge of (Solid) Relevant accounting standards
  • Stakeholder Management Skills (Solid)
  • Sound knowledge of Banking Credit
