Role Purpose :
Provides engineering support and risk evaluation services for underwriting staff to aid in securing and rating of new accounts and evaluating existing accounts for renewal.
Key responsibilities :
1. Provide engineering support to the business acquisition teams, underwriters and claims;
Provides engineering support and risk evaluation services to help in the risk selection process.
Carry out on-site and desktop risk assessments using Chubb approach and methodology for the large commercial / industrial objects with respect to property damage, machinery breakdown and business interruption;
Elaboration of feasible loss scenarios;
Developing recommendations for the risk improvement clients and formulate phased improvement plans to upgrade accounts by offering guidance to the insured in conjunction with underwriters and brokers;
Maintain liaison with insureds, brokers and underwriters on all risk engineering matters relevant to allocated accounts.
Risk assessment and risk improvement reports and Desk top reviews preparation.
Research technical problems and inquiries from insureds and CHUBB operating units on an as-needed basis. Gives timely responses and ensure consistency in evaluating hazards and recommending improvements is provided.
Remain abreast of developments in loss prevention engineering practices, emerging exposures and hazards and market trends.
2. Execution of risk management proposals and account management programmes of small and commercial insurance accounts with some minor international exposure.
3. Ability to handle account engineering / management of in-country multi-location and multinational accounts for all lower hazard risks, including account budget development, servicing programme co-ordination.
4. Provides presentations on Risk Engineering to (prospective) clients and brokers.
5. Develop, revise and coordinate the South Africa Property Risk Engineering department in association with regional Risk Engineering Manager.
Able to function within a branch environment with other engineers and interact with other business functions.
Engineering degree or physical science degree.
Qualified to a minimum of bachelor’s degree level or with other appropriate technical qualifications or practical experience as deemed appropriate at the Regional & COG level.
Driving Licence (preferably but not mandatory)
English language proficiency and any other European language is a very positive feature
3-5 year experience in the field of property loss prevention, production (as mechanical engineer or product engineer) or construction (as civil engineer).
With a sound knowledge of either :
o fire protection engineering, or
o the practical application of appropriate engineering standards to a specific industry segment or grouping.
Experience of working in International company is a positive feature.
