We are currently looking for a NOC (Network Operating Centre) Engineer to support the business in achieving its strategic objectives.

The NOC Engineer will, Monitor and respond promptly to any incident relating to the VAST network. The NOC Engineer will perform second pass trouble shooting and provide accurate feedback to customers, either internal or external.

Liaising with in country service providers. Following vendor’s escalation process to ensure a speedy resolution to incidents.

Analysing vendors / client reason for outage report and keep record of events. Collaborating extensively with peers and other teams within VAST to drive problem resolution and contribute to a growing knowledge network.

The NOC Engineer must interact successfully with other areas of the business and with all 3rd party providers. The success of this role is based on the continued uptime and stability of all Core network infrastructures thereby ensuring technical excellence for services delivered to the market.

What we expect you to do

  • Administration and Management of existing core and access infrastructure
  • Monitor and maintain Core Network and access network uptime
  • Enhancements of functionality for relevant infrastructure
  • Second pass fault analysis
  • Scheduled network maintenance, owning IMACD process. Ensuring completion of changes
  • All documentation on the environments such Capacity Management, Availability management, Change management, Problem Management and any other ITIL documentation
  • Providing monthly reports on all aspects of the NOC environment. This includes trend analysis on outages encountered
  • Assist internal personnel with general enquiries
  • Dealing with our 3rd party suppliers
  • Standby will be a requirement
  • Assisting Capacity Management
  • The NOC Engineer will be required to work Standby
  • What would make you a good fit for this role?

  • Minimum 3 years within related environments, 5 years preferred
  • Solid general understanding of networking (L1, L2, L3)
  • Working knowledge of NMS e.g. OpenNMS, SolarWinds, Cacti, Iris, Netcool etc.
  • Working knowledge of Linux including GREP and REGEX search syntax
  • Suitable networking qualification (e.g. CCNA / CCNP or working towards obtaining)
  • Working knowledge of SNMP and will be beneficial
  • Understanding of the Change Management system
  • Routing, switching and WiFi knowledge is essential, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS etc.)
  • Suitable University Degree or Technical Diploma will be beneficial; and
  • Candidates with other relevant degrees or work experience will be considered.
  • Microsoft office proficiency
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex L2 or L3 networks
  • Understanding of Layer 2 loop detection and mitigation (e.g. stp)
  • Understanding of common L7 protocols (http, dns, smtp, etc.)
