Qualification and Experience Bachelor / Masters Degree in Law, Business Administration or Commercial Law, Accounting or Auditing.
4+ years’ post qualification experience in field of taxation. Experience of working in both Direct Tax and VAT. Roles and Responsibilities Execution Performing or review of direct tax business audits for all companies within the Group.
Manage & control third party tax audits (External / Internal / SARS). Prepare audit schedules for year end, financial statements / audit purposes.
Maintain tax policies and procedure manuals that pertains to the preparation of the tax returns. Identify systems / control breakdowns and implement system / control changes where required.
Implement controls to mitigate any risks identified within agreed period. Manage queries from SARS. Manage and report on Audit report register.
Schedule and maintenance of dividends paid / exemption applications for all group companies. Organise internal training for updates / discussions on new policies.
Review of Corporate Income Tax returns and VAT returns. Responsible for ensuring compliance throughout the Group Finance.
Ensure tax compliance requirements are planned for at the beginning of the project. Own and manage ongoing governance, tax policy, procedures and standards within local and foreign corporate tax as well as the preparation of tax in the financial accounts and indirect taxes in close corporation with the External Reporting team.
Ensure that all activities comply with the statutory / regulatory requirements. Review Income Tax and Dividend distribution tax for the Group.
Act as the expert adviser for Group Business Servicesand all compliance related matters. Ensure smooth and timely conduct of Direct Tax and VAT audits as applicable.
Ensure assessments are closed in timely manner. File required appeals and proceeding with litigation wherever required in timely and efficient manner upholding organisation interest.
Performing or review of indirect / direct tax business audits performed for all companies within the Group. Manage implementation of system changes in order to comply with legislation or to enhance controls by ensuring the successful implementation thereof (on time and working as designed).
Optimise group tax liability through managing early and late payment deadlines and over / underpayment of indirect taxes and direct taxes.
Leadership Create an environment that encourages employee motivation & retention, high levels of employee engagement and ensures employee satisfaction.
Support the Finance Executive : Tax to drive a culture of continuous improvement and undertake continuous improvement projects.
Provide clear leadership and promote and foster a team culture consistent with the Group’s values. Relationship Work collaboratively with Business units and Group Business Services to manage tax risks.
Work collaboratively with Tax authorities to address issues.
