What are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals aged 18+ to join our business nationwide.If you are based in any of the following locations and are looking to join a company where you can build a career and have the ambition to develop towards a leadership role, we want to hear from you!

  • Interested in learning about the Builders Merchant industry

  • A driver with a full clean driving licence and access to a car
  • What is on offer?

    The Merchant Apprenticeship Programme is a comprehensive two-year training programme aimed at giving you a broad understanding of our business.

    Over the course of those two years you will spend time at a number of branches in your area (overnight stays may be necessary but expenses will be covered), this branch rotation will give you a fantastic opportunity to learn about the workings of a merchant branch (big and small) and our timber processing plants.

    In addition to this you have the opportunity to be enrolled in a relevant apprenticeship qualification (subject to funding approval).

    During the two-year programme you will spend time with our support functions where you will learn about Human Resources, Transport, IT, Marketing, Credit Control and Purchasing.

    We will fully support you as you gain an understanding of our exciting industry, offering work experience and training in :

  • First-class customer service
  • Sales techniques
  • Product knowledge
  • Forklift driving
  • Team building
  • Plumbing & Heating / Kitchen and Bathroom Showrooms
  • Warehouse, Yard and Trade Counter
  • Timber processing operations
  • Plus :

  • Spend time with our Drivers & Transport function
  • Manufacture and Supplier training courses
  • We are fully committed to aiding your professional and personal development and your Huws Gray Mentor will be there to coach and support you along your journey.

  • 45 hour working week including Saturday working dependant on your current placement.
