The Product Development Manager is responsible for research, planning, and implementing new programs and protocols into the company and overseeing the development of new products.
The Product Development Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire development process of new products and programs within the organization, from the initial planning phase to implementation (production), including all the costs related to the creation of these new products.
This role should also stay informed on what is happening in the foods development and manufacturing fields at large in order to make sure the company is up-
to-date with the most advanced product and process developments. As a manager, he / she also has important managerial and administrative responsibilities and is the line manager in charge of overseeing a team of R&D Technicians.
It is important to be able to see the big picture as this role is required to envision projects from start to finish. At the same time, having a keen ability to pay attention to details is important, as the Product Development Manager ultimately needs to closely supervise every step of the development process for new products, including process development in the factory.
Leadership and managerial skills are also important in this role, as well as the ability to communicate well with customers, colleagues and production staff.
Lead key development and improvement projects with R&D to support business goals.
Develop concepts, products and solutions by coordinating with other business departments.
Establish project goals and priorities by collaborating with Marketing and Operations.
Understand customer expectations and translate into manufactured product.
Manage customer relationships and perform Customer Visits and Product Testing.
Research, design and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes and equipment.
Introduce improved materials, technologies and manufacturing processes into the business.
Ensure flawless quality standards are maintained at all stages of production.
Manage the technical team to implement and maintain any changes or improvements required to the plant and equipment.
Hire and develop R&D and technical talent for the business.
Monitor team metrics and objectives ensuring meeting of goals.
Document all phases of product development. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 1. Knowledge & Experience
Matric with higher Grade Mathematics and Science
Tertiary qualification in food science, engineering or a similar technical field.

Familiarity with modern food manufacturing practices and methods in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO : 9001) and FSSC certification.
Understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
