Role summary

As Manager of the Business Systems team in South Africa, the candidate will be responsible for management of the team responsible for all key business applications, throughout the organization including both applications operated in local jurisdiction infrastructure and also some support in respect of applications operated by users supporting other jurisdictions.

This includes management and allocation of daily end user support items requiring team attention, as well as managing the System Development Life Cycle for changes and updates as well as process enhancements.

Business Systems :

  • Plan, develop and implement strategy / goals for the department in conjunction with the Global Business Systems team, to meet agreed organizational plans and strategy;
  • Establish / maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of the department, as well as, progress with business deliverables;
  • Monitor and report to internal Forums and Committees on operational issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements;
  • Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets;
  • Liaise with other departmental managers, to understand their needs, and to ensure they are fully informed of operational objectives, purposes and achievements;
  • Contribute to the evaluation and development of operational strategy and performance with the executive team.
  • Management :

  • Participate in and chair, where relevant, management forums and committees;
  • Management and co-ordination of resources in the Business Systems team, including :
  • oTeam structure and dynamics


    oPerformance management, development and mentoring

    oSuccession planning

    oFormalise and maintain contracts and role descriptions

  • Consider aspects dealing with business continuity management and planning in conjunction with the Chief Technology Officer or relevant management in the Technology division.
  • Skills / experience required

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written, preferably with confidence to conduct training sessions for staff in relevant systems or participate in business development activity with Clients where appropriate to explain systems aspects;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Strong, proven leadership and management skills, experience with effective delegation and conflict management, working well under pressure;
  • Proactive, with an ability to plan, schedule and organize in a systematic and orderly manner;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, being supportive and patient with users;
  • Proven ability to work with all levels of management, executive leadership and support staff;
  • Sound judgement;
  • The ability to work well in a team as well as independently without direct supervision;
  • Strong IT knowledge and conceptual understanding, ability to understand business requirements, procedures and be able to link these to systems solutions;
  • Able to construct investment appraisals / financial models to support business cases for projects clearly communicating options and pros and cons thereof for for the business to consider;
  • Good awareness of project management principles in a financial services / IT environment, including awareness of methods for managing quality (testing methodologies).
  • Preferably qualified with a recognised PM certification;
  • Continual Process Improvement mindset;
  • Awareness of products and systems in the marketplace which may be of benefit to SANNE;
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite;
  • Alternative investment industry and administration knowledge;
  • Strong Fund Accounting knowledge and experience;
  • Extensive knowledge on all investment instruments, corporate actions, performance fee methodologies and fund structures;
  • In-depth accounting knowledge relating to the above transactions;
  • Broad understanding of systems, procedures and processes in SANNE; and
  • Preferably an in-depth working knowledge of the PFS-Paxus administration system and other core systems used in SANNE, or other similar systems (such as eFront or Investran);
  • Able to work flexibly to provide support / cover, in particular around changes to production systems;
  • Able to travel from time to time, with reasonable notice, to support wider user community outside of the local jurisdiction as needed.
