To manage a team in order to monitor the impact of AEL operations on the environment. To ensure compliance with environmental legislation and that AEL is operating according to sustainability principles at Modderfontein.
To investigate environmental incident. Duties & Responsibilities
Support the Environmental Manager in providing an on-site environmental management service at AEL’s Modderfontein complex with specific focus on drainage systems, solid waste and air quality.
Compile monthly environmental reports.
Compliance review of all authority submissions.
Investigate all incidences related to the environment and make recommendations for mitigation or policy changes.
Obtain and record all environmental performance statistics as well as analysis, audit and reporting of statistics to AECI Head Office.
Track water use parameters in excel, interrogate data and investigate discrepancies.
Monitor and track actual expenditure against budget.
Foster and open constructive dialogue with surrounding communities.
Maintain a member database for community liaison.
Arrange meetings with community members and provide guidance and advice.
Oversee and monitor work conducted by contractors to ensure compliance.
Oversee waste disposal by licensed contractors.
People management & development.
Comply with governance & compliance policies and procedures.
Comply with Safety, Health and Environment standards.
Active involvement in the handling and investigation of all environmental incidents and complaints from interested and affected parties.
Assist in environmental clean-up operations as and when required or as directed by Modderfontein management.
Active involvement in environmental studies and projects and to provide positive inputs to ensure compliance to AEL, WUL and Sewer permit.
Ensure compliance to all permit requirements as well as report of statistics required by legislation (for example : NAEIS, SAWIS).
Ensure a good working relation between relevant parties and other applicable governmental organizations
Report on hazardous waste generated on GWIS. Qualifications & Experience
Degree in environmental management or related topics.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Sound knowledge of related legislation including but not limited to explosives legislation, water use license, burning grounds and air quality.
Understanding of the chemistry relating to water and air pollution.
Working knowledge of environmental legislation and ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems.
Understanding of waste minimisation.
Basic project management skills.
Ability to conduct environmental investigation. Competencies
