Job Summary

As a BIM Lead you will be part of the AECOM Africa B+P BIM Task Team and will report to your respective Business Line Lead.

You will be tasked with driving BIM nationally within your respective business line with a 60% utilisation target.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Able to work without supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time

Ability to read and understand construction documents

Familiar with design parameters related to discipline specific requirements

Knowledge of AECOM standard modelling practices and procedures

Maintain and adheres to AECOM and project specific filing systems

Develop BIM content based on BIM Modelling standards

Collaborate and communicate with other disciplines regarding coordination issues and common model development tasks

Perform both routine and non-routine, complex modelling assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.

Works with BIM Model Coordinator and project engineers to communicate, problem solve, and update models for coordination and design issues

Assist engineers / architects with drawing coordination problem solving

Maintain awareness of compliance to safety and quality standards and integration of design

Implement BIM modelling techniques and processes to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the production process.

Provide a leadership role to the junior modellers within the discipline

Maintain an overview of developments in BIM modelling systems and standard Codes of Practice.

Upskilling the BIM team to deliver BIM Level 2 processes into everyday project production and delivery.

Improve and customize of content libraries (e.g. Revit families, Civil 3D assemblies)

Develop and execute user training for BIM software

Ability to work on multiple projects at once

Create and help manage discipline BIM Standards.

Assist staff with technical software support.

Provide client representation on behalf of AECOM regarding BIM capabilities as required.

Liaising with external parties (sub consultants, consultants, contractor, clients etc.) regarding AECOM Africa BIM processes.

Help coordinate discipline specific software management.

Assist BIM Manager.

Act as a Project BIM Coordinator / Project Information Manager including the following roles :

Provide or assist in providing necessary BIM training for the project teams.

Work as an addition to the senior project team.

Manage traditional drawing standards.

Direct and manage all BIM related activities from project start-up to project completion.

Initiate the BIM Execution Plan.

Manage the adherence to the BIM Execution Plan (including defined project standards) by the entire project team.

Manage the collaboration / file exchange site and process for the project.

Assists PM in defining / managing the project’s BIM Scope of Work.

Troubleshoot technology issues for the project.

Work with the PM / Senior project leadership in translating design / technical design intent into the model(s).

Facilitates the coordination of BIM related activities with consultants and contractors / fabricators.

Lead the managing and reviewing of project specific content / family creation for quality.

Responsible for implementing a model maintenance & model QA / QC process for the project.

Experience :

5+ years’ experience with modelling software in an architectural or engineering environment.

Previous Project BIM Coordination / Project Information Management experience.

Revit Certified Professional certification required within 2 years of current version.

Must be proficient in Navisworks Manage.

Must be proficient in drawing / model management systems (Like BIM Team, BIM 360 Docs, Aconex or ProjectWise).

Must be versed in local industry BIM Initiatives and internationally recognised BIM initiatives, standards, protocols and mandates like BS1192 and ISO19650.

General knowledge of integrated architectural and engineering practice.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Must be detail-oriented, consistent and highly accurate in the work.

Should have a thorough grasp of engineering modelling and principles.

Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills.

Must have good communications skills : interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.

Ability to set priorities in an efficient and timely manner to meet essential job functions.

Must be a team player, have a positive attitude, and be a self-starter.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Possess a strong work ethic.

Able to deliver quality work under pressure.

Person should be keen to learn, young and energetic with the desire to be an excellent modeller.

We are not looking for a design engineer or a project manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering.
