Our client in Franschhoek is looking for a Estate Manager. The ideal candidate should have practical experience of a typical farm or industrial / mining maintenance environment, a love for the outdoors and a passion for people.
He or she will be excellent at team building and teaching new employees the skills required. Planning and implementation of maintenance activities will be second nature.
Having an agricultural background will be advantageous as a significant portion of tasks will be dealing and optimising current farming activities and infrastructure.
Qualifications and Experience : A minimum academic qualification of N4 or Grade 12 equivalent (Degree level qualification could be advantageous) An understanding of basic accounting principles and the management of the income and expenditure, Budget, P&L & Balance Sheet will be essential.
Trade Qualification as a Plumber, Electrician, Civil Technician or Fitter. At least 5 years’ hands-on experience in the field of infrastructure maintenance management and or as a manager responsible for infrastructure maintenance.
Successful candidate will ideally have been previously employed in either agricultural, municipal or mining or power generation engineering maintenance environments.
Interaction with the residents on the estate to resolve service problems will require a general ability to communicate and handle unhappy clients in a cool and calm, respectful and professional manner.
Key Duties : Responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and infrastructure of the Estate, as well as supplying services (normally supplied by municipalities) on a reliable and cost-effective basis to home owners This should be done in protecting the ecological environment and comply with applicable laws and regulations (such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the National Environmental Management Act and the National Water Act.
The natural beauty of the Estate is part of its identity and so it is important to have a love for gardening and fauna and flora in general.
Other Tasks : Manage Operational Budget Report on non-conformance of service level agreements. Conduct general required risk-assessments.
Prepare and manage the infrastructure maintenance and operational cost budgets within agreed parameters with limited or no overspending.
Proposing, developing, and implementing capital projects which can improve the reliability, efficiency, and availability of the services infrastructure.
Prepare annual horticultural schedule incl. all tasks and timings and methods required to perform task. Attend internal and external meetings improving safety and security of Estate.
Market and sell produce grown on the Estate. For this candidate it will not be a problem to deal with people and their complaints, as he or she will in effect have 90 owners to keep happy.
The candidate should be available on call on a seven day rotational basis and accordingly be prepared to re-locate to Estate provided accommodation, or live in the town of Franschhoek.
Salary : Negotiable, depending on experience
