Safety and Sustainability’s purpose is to support a step change in business performance by developing the organization’s capability to manage risks and exploit opportunities in Safety and Sustainability.

Critical to this success is effectively managing permits across Company. The permitting process has become harder (technically, procedurally and politically) over the past ten years.

Permitting delays, and a failure to comply with conditions attached to permits, leads to significant financial, operational and reputational costs.

At present Company uses more than 30 different Permitting IT Tools (PITT) across its business units and operations in four different continents.

There is a need to rationalize and standardize the way Permits are managed to minimize risks and provide senior managers with real time oversight.

Therefore, in 2018, the company will initiate the implementation of a single PITT, which will be adopted by all sites across the globe in substitution of the current tools.


The purpose of Company’s Permitting IT Tool (PITT) Project is to achieve a step change in our Permitting performance, through the adoption of a modern Permitting IT tool allowing for a planned, clear, stable, structured and user-

friendly permitting practice at site and project level.

The purpose of this role is to develop and execute a change management strategy to enhance the effectiveness of the PITT implementation.


  • Develop a change management plan that aligns with project implementation schedule based on Company change management standards
  • Develop communication and engagement strategy that aligns with project implementation schedule.
  • Apply change management methodology (such as ADKAR or similar) to map key stakeholders
  • Actively engage with stakeholder groups about project purpose, requirements, priorities, timeframe etc.
  • Enhance stakeholder awareness and experience through utilisation of varied communication channels.
  • Effectively manage high resistance stakeholders
  • Escalate any program or stakeholder issues that pose a risk to effective implementation as soon as practical.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key partners and clients : inform, influence and engage with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure that content is region specific; cultural awareness and language requirements are considered.
  • Build trust and credibility and manage relationships with internal network and external vendors and contacts to achieve business results.
  • Work with project customer and Change Management to set and meet expectations and to resolve project issues as they arise
  • Promote an open and collaborative environment by encouraging the sharing of information and resources across boundaries.
  • Visibly demonstrate SHE behaviour and Company values and hold others accountable for doing the same.

  • Formal qualifications :

  • Required : An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Communications or Journalism.
  • Required : Formal qualification in change management methodology (such as ADKAR)
  • Role-specific knowledge :

  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing a change management strategy for a project in a relevant sector (e.
  • g. mining, oil and gas, construction).

  • Experience of working in a large multinational company and international projects, involving different cultures and business environments.
  • Safety :

  • Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
  • Technical Skills

    Technical Skill requirements :

  • Required : Intermediate-Advanced user of Microsoft Office products such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Skype, Skype for Business, Webex.
  • Required : effective English communication skills both verbal and written (including report writing and analytical skills).

  • Effective in working with diverse teams and sensitive to local social, political and cultural realities
  • Comfortably interact across all mediums of interaction i.e. face to face vs virtual interactions with team and stakeholders
  • Use networks in all stages of decision making to ensure decisions are not made in isolation, though not to the extent that would be seen as abdicating responsibility

  • Required : Advancedlevel of English (verbal and written) is required.
  • Additional languages are an advantage.
  • Regular domestic and regional travel will be required.
  • Irregular International travel may be required.
  • Work on site at Mine operations will be required. This may involve activities of a physical nature in a typical mine environment (for example noise, vibration, heat, small spaces, reduced visibility).
  • Working at high altitude may be required.
  • Ability to balance strategic thought with delivery of tangible business outcomes.
  • Timely, pragmatic and effective decision making drawing on limited inputs and sometimes incomplete information.
