The position encompasses the following major functions or key result areas :

  • Business intelligence and reporting
  • Data integration and migration
  • Software deployment
  • Technical support
  • This would include : Execution

  • Ensure that the scope for the project is analysed and well documented
  • Ensure the timely completion of the project per the original and agreed upon timescales and that all time is logged correctly
  • Ensure all expenditure on the project is within the agreed budget and look for ways to reduce costs
  • Ensure that project deliverables are of an acceptable standard and will satisfy the requirements and business drivers
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures are adhered to
  • Communicate improvement possibilities and participate in improvement initiatives
  • Assist in building an effective project team
  • Document all processes and train internal and customer staff
  • Provide reporting on all project related activities
  • Identify, analyse, weigh and procure action plans to counter risks
  • Analyse existing SQL queries for performance improvements
  • Develop procedures and scripts for data migration
  • Develop, implement and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL
  • Deployment and execution of software solutions
  • Respond to phone / e-mail inquiries within 24 hours of receipt
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for all company and third party products
  • Assist with setting up lab environments per customer / tender specifications.
  • Training on hardware and software solutions
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot the MS operating systems and products installed on those systems
  • Update incident entries with clear informative written English, without jargon or the use of acronyms
  • Interface when necessary with internal stakeholders to obtain any assistance required
  • Build appropriate and useful reporting deliverables utilizing SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS) and QlikView
  • Review and interpret ongoing business report requirements Corporate contribution
  • Constructively participate as a member of the wider team
  • Undertake any other tasks or one-off projects which may be assigned from time to time
  • Ensure protection of the company’s commercial interests always and in all circumstances

  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with project managers and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support Person specification Qualifications and experience
  • Matric
  • Diploma or degree in Information Systems
  • A+, N+, MCDBA, MCSE are advantageous
  • Database maintenance and Microsoft SQL scripting qualification
  • SQL report writing qualification
  • Project management qualification is advantageous
  • At least 4 years’ experience in the information technology industry and / or prepaid metering industry
  • Experience in Microsoft SQL server and related platforms
  • Experience in networking and telecoms, covering Microsoft applications, database platforms, GSM and radio networking
  • Drivers licence Key skills / attributes / position specific competencies The following indicates what would typically be expected for this role at a competent level :
