Introduction A well known manufacturing company in the forestry sector based in Kwazulu Natal (Kokstad) is looking for a Plantation ManagerPurpose of the RoleYou will be responsible for controlling, monitoring and managing the forestry activities for both own operations and contractors, as well as foresters at the Plantation, as well as drawing up of operational budgets and Annual Plans of Operations for the various activities in conjunction with the Forestry Manager.
He / she will be responsible for controlling forestry and related activities in order to ensure a high standard of quality and quantity.
Key Responsibilities : Management of all agricultural aspects (nurseries, development, harvesting, maintenance) Responsible for the development of the plantations : extensions and replanting.
Organizing of the crop transport to the factory. Building of roads, bridges, villages.Fully responsible of the overall operation and financial performance of the companys plantations.
Assuming leadership responsibility in ensuring infrastructure and supporting units are well equipped.Working closely with other department heads of the company to facilitate cost effective operation.
Providing leadership and strategic guidance to all Agriculture aspects (R&D, Development, Harvesting, Maintenance).Actively involved in the business ground operations.
Involved in the planning and execution of the companys expansion plan.Oversees the daily operations of the estate be responsible for the human capital development, asset utilization and preservation and operational performance.
Inspecting the plantations and prepare submission written report after each visit detailing the state and conditions of all aspects of the estate together with necessary recommendation.
Provide recommendations on all agricultural aspects of the development and operation of the estates conformance to best developed practices.
Ensure all plantations are within the framework of Environment policies and responsibilities.Ensure all work operations in safe and responsible mannerPlanning and managing estate budget to ensure operating expenses and profitability are maximized.
Build relationship with key stakeholders and also local government and community around the estate.Minimum experience & qualifications requiredMatric with a Saasveld Forestry qualification or equivalent.
At least 10 years experience as a Forester.Knowledge and experience in silviculture, fire protection, conservation and harvesting operations.
Computer literacy and working knowledge of MicroForest, MS Office would be an added advantage.Code B Drivers Licence is a prerequisite.
