CONTEXT

In response to the prevailing and forecast economic environment Anglo American has set a new strategy focused on strengthening the balance sheet of the company.

This will be delivered through a revised portfolio of assets producing consumer facing commodities, and, enhanced cash generation from asset disposals and improved operational performance.

Better business processes, better risk management, more stable and capable operations, and, a refreshed organisational design all support the achievement of this strategy.

PURPOSE

To lead the implementation of approved site-based business improvement project interventions, ensuring consistency with Anglo American Operating Model principles to drive safe, sustainable business results.

TYPICAL TASKS

  • Lead the establishment of a platform and process for the optimum implementation of the Anglo American Operating Model at operations across the Group (specifying a project scope, budget and risk mitigation schedule)
  • Assess the operating and social environment in order to design a suitable implementation and change management plan
  • Ensure that site capability is developed for the sustained effective use of the Anglo American Operating Model
  • Lead the selection, appointment and training for team members responsible for Anglo American Operating Model implementation
  • Lead the integration, scheduling, prioritisation and reporting of site-specific project establishment activities to ensure operational delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for value enhancement

  • Establish ownership of the Operating Model amongst site leadership and assess the effectiveness of the project before-
  • during- and post-delivery. Ensure Anglo American Operating Model sustainability post site implementation

  • Lead the development and application of organisational measures and management routines of the project site
  • Lead team development and manage individual performance to improve team effectiveness and leverage individual career development
  • Contribute to the development of an Anglo American Operating Model Best Practice and knowledge capture / transfer approach
  • Visibly demonstrate SHE leadership
  • Formal qualifications :

  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline
  • A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
  • Role-specific knowledge :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the full mining value chain and the application and use of Business Operating Models
  • Track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery in a Business Improvement Project environment
  • Knowledge of Change Management within a Business Operating Model context
