This role is responsible for the successful delivery of Project(s), to time, to quality and budget ensuring the Gross Margin expectations are maximised.
Projects include the supply of Substation automation and protection systems, smart metering systems, software solutions relating to National control centres (SCADA), Demand response, Meter data management (MDM) systems.
In addition to ensuring QHSE is maintained to the highest standards on all projects under their control and operating within a culture embracing Zero Harm, promoting continuous improvement monitored by Key Performance Indicators
As the Project Manager, the role holder may lead projects with supporting staff as required from the Operations team.
The role reports to Operations and Engineering Manager, will form part of the Customer Services and Delivery team and will potentially have staff reporting to them as part of the project delivery.
The role will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa and candidates must be flexible to travel to site which can be several locations on the African continent.
What are my Responsibilities?
Agree with Order winning team, delivery of scope, budget & program prior to submission.
Establish Project controls throughout the Project lifecycle, to the highest standards of compliance for all activities.
Fully understand the terms and conditions of all contracts under their control working with commercial partner as required.
Accept projects and deliver to tendered scope, budget & program actively seeking to increase gross margin performance.
Develop delivery strategy for each project to efficiently maximise project performance as tendered or through improved ways of delivery through effective planning and control.
Provide programs and resource / manpower requirements for FIT as required.
Effective variation control including management of customer requirements to increase the project scope through effective variation control to agreed terms & conditions of contract.
Maintain and be responsible for high standards of Health, Safety & Environment - including reporting of all accidents, incidents and serious near misses, including any follow up investigations and actions as required.
Maintain an effective risk & opportunity register for all projects under their control including cost and program related items.
Coordinate and manage all procurement, engineering, manufacturing, Site resources and sub-contract interfaces for projects under their control.
Maintain customer relationship to achieve long-term retention and satisfaction for growth potential.
Carry out effective contract reviews with finance team including forecasting of financial and resource requirements.
Make full use on the Non-conformance reporting (NCR) tool ensuring all project related NCR’s are closed out in a timely manner.
Management of a project(s) budget typically >
Operate within signature protocol, governance, process’s and systems.
Approval of timesheets and expenses on project related costs as required.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
Degree / BTech Electrical / Electronic / Computer Engineering
PMP qualification advantageous
Must have intricate knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts Candidate must demonstrate this
Must have worked on a large project as the lead Project Manager (R100 million or more) - Candidate must demonstrate this
Occupational Health Qualification desirable
8-10 years Project management experience.
Must be able to use all Microsoft applications : MS-Project, Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
Working knowledge and practical application of Project management planning methodologies and tools preferred.
Knowledge of the Electrical Supply Industry from a supplier or customer perspective preferred or equivalent industry with demonstrable transferrable knowledge.
