Data Analyst

Objectives of this Scope of Work

The main purpose of this position is for the resource to assist FMD on delivering a centralised Data Repository project by providing data specifications that can be used by Business Analysts to confirm Business user requirements with Report Subject matter Experts (SMEs).

  • The data analyst will also be required define an "As-Is and propose the To-Be" Physical Data Mart that provides curated data for all the reports within a data group (subject area);
  • this includes providing the technical specifications that can be used by ETL developers to implement the data movement from landing to the data mart area.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and to deliver on the following key performance areas :

    Business specification

    ï · Engage with business stakeholders to elicit requirements.

    ï · Define functional and information requirements for data warehouse and BI solution.

    ï · Define business rules, calculation and logic required in the developed data warehouse.

    ï · Conduct document analysis, Original Report Analysis of the excel macros and calculations to deliver the report, as well as interpretation of existing data files.

    ï · Analyse data contained in various reports or data files determine the information requirements.

  • ï · Analysis of original Report Data Lineage;
  • ï · Populate the Business Glossary, Data Catalogue and Data Dictionary for the reports

  • ï · Revised Data Lineage to ensure the correct use of authoritative master data and representative transaction information;
  • ï · Define Business Rules & Calculations, Business Information Aggregation and Business Report Structures;
  • ï · Provide input with regards to the complete set of analysis artefacts required to deliver effectively for a data warehouse and BI solution.

    Provide guidance on best practice techniques for BI and data warehouse elicitation requirements.

    ï · Define model and process for promoting reports built by business super users using exploratory datasets in a sandbox environment into the main production data warehouse.

    ï · Define data sourcing specification including data quality rules to be used as input into integration requirements.

    b. Technical Specification :

    ï · Data Landing definition of the trusted source data required to produce curated data

    ï · Document source to target maps for BI reports (understand as-is STTM as input to build to-be STTM)

    ï · Create Physical Data Model of the Data Mart

    ï · Document Data Quality checks and rules required to ensure trustworthy data

    ï · Interpret and translate code within Excel (VBA / Macros) to serve as input for functional requirements.

    ï · Map data flow / data lineage from source system to reports Data source >

    Reporting .

    ï · Identify and define data migration requirements.

    ï · Identify and define master data requirements.

    ï · Master Data Definitions of information kept in excel reports that are not currently managed by existing applications (for example : Calypso) and external third-party systems (for example : Bloomberg).

    ï · Provide input with regards to the design of a post-production support model for the data warehouse and BI solution.

    ï · Develop the business glossary, data catalogue and data dictionary related to data warehouse and BI solution.

    Expected outputs / deliverables are as follows :

    a. Functional Requirements Specification document

    b. Report Specification per identified Report

    c. Source to Target Mapping documents per Report As-is and To-be

    d. Data Flow diagrams As-is and To-be

    e. Data Models As-is and To-be

    f. Inputs into creation of Data Dictionary

    g. Report Designs and Mock-ups

    Qualifications and experience :

  • a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering or an equivalent qualification;
  • ï · 8 to 10 years experience in Data Warehousing, Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) development, Business Intelligence and dashboard designs.

    ï · SQL Server / Oracle (T-SQLor PL / SQL) programming skills including SQL objects development, performance tuning, data analysis and integration

  • ï · continuous improvement knowledge and skill;
  • ï · continued learning and / or professional development knowledge and skill;
  • ï · information technology (IT) enablement strategy and planning knowledge skill;
  • ï · IT enablement legislation and governance, risk and compliance knowledge and skill;
  • ï · extensive knowledge of Business Intelligence and Analytics Software such as MicroStrategy, Pyramid, OBIEE, Microsoft Power BI , Qlikview, Java, R, Python, C#, SharePoint, SAS, MS BI Stack

    ï · familiarity with data collection software and protocol

    ï · experience integrating new software and programs to data services

  • ï · extensive knowledge in ETL development and maintenance with SSIS, IBM data stage, Oracle ODI, PL / SQL and T / SQL stored procedures and complex SQL queries;
  • ï · extensive knowledge of the most common RDBMS technologies, e.g. Oracle, IBM, SQLServer, MySql;
