Our client based in the East Rand is seeking the expertise of an EMS Technician and responsible to disassemble and / or assemble electric motors, generators, pumps and gearboxes during refurbishment thereof in accordance with standards and specifications.

This includes using the relevant equipment within a workshop environment to inspect, measure and test all mechanical and electrical components with the aim of compiling a detailed condition report with recommendations to refurbish the items to OEM standard.

The focus of the position is to strip (burn out and clean), rewind and seal (resin impregnate), assemble and test electric motors and generators.

Secondary to this the incumbent is responsible to conduct field service support on electric motors, generators and variable frequency drives at customer sites across Sub-Saharan Africa.


Education and Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified Trade Test : Electrician / Millwright
  • Matric / Grade12 / N4
  • 3 years’ experience in motors / generator repair and rewinding
  • 3 years’ work experience as an Electrical / Millwright Field Service Technician
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, clean and inspect AC and DC electric motors, generators, pumps and gearboxes etc.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose the repairs that need to be made, and the parts required for the repairs
  • Perform incoming and outbound testing, visual inspection, insolation resistance test, surge test, rotor core testing etc.
  • Performance test repaired motors and generators
  • Field service troubleshoot, equipment diagnosis, installations, commissioning at customer sites etc.
  • Installations of VFD’s, switchgear, instruments etc.
  • Coil burn out and stator repairs / core rebuilds
  • Rewind of AC and DC motors with new coils into the stator, wedging and connecting the coils
  • Rotor core lamination repair and installation
  • Operating specialized repair and testing equipment, including but not limited to coil winding machines, test panels, core loss testers, cut off saws, burnout brazing units, resin dip tanks, VPI systems and various handheld power and non power tools
