CNC Machine Shop Foreman Heavy Engineering Firm in Fabrication Environment situated in Vanderbijpark with a Trade Test Certificate : Fitting / Turning and 7 years’ experience in a similar heavy engineering role with programming knowledge of Fanuc and Siemens.
Engineering Trade Certificate in Fitting and / or Turning with 7 years experience
CNC machine programming (Fanuc and Siemens)
Ensure health, safety and environmental procedures and legal requirements are adhered to. Report any deviations to H&S Practitioner and / or Manufacturing Manager
Accountable for conducting daily SHE inspections, acting on all deviations raised and informing the Manufacturing Manager and SHE department
Stop any unsafe act or condition and remedy such action or condition immediately
Ensure that all employees on the job are equipped with and wearing correct PPE (personal protective equipment)
Responsible for the training of new employees as well as the training on safety procedures
Maintaining a positive health and safety record through strong leadership and a consistent focus and awareness towards working safely
Enforce Company safety rules and ensure compliance to safety procedures. Ensure that employees are complying with such and lead by example.
i.e Mini HIRA & fall protection plan compliance
Conduct job observations on each employee, on a monthly basis, communicating the results to the individual concerned
Assist in promoting the 10 commitments with the workforce
Ensure that SHE Representatives are allowed the required time for ensuring that monthly inspections are conducted
Ensure active participation during internal audits and correction of any deviations raised as a result
To ensure that accidents and near misses are investigated when they occur in your area of responsibility assist in the completion of the NCRs
Ensure attendance and participation in the monthly SHE committee meeting
Determine the tools and equipment needed to effectively complete a job
Participate in the creation of the daily machine schedule providing feedback to feasibility, flow and operator capacity.
Ensure all machines are running in accordance with the daily published schedule, and with objectives to meet established targets
Problem solving / Component Quality : Coordinate directly with QC department to validate part quality from QC reports.
For any non-conforming issues, validate part setup, tool builds, fixture requirements and machine geometry and coordinate data with QC Engineer to achieve the required resolution and expected quality
Using the forecasted machine schedule, proactively verify the machines are configured correctly with appropriate tooling, available tool life, and fixtures as required to meet the forecasted production schedule
Develop, implement and evaluate SOPs and WIs to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve processes related to machine maintenance, operator procedures, tooling procedures, pre-
setting procedures, etc.
Actively mentors and participates in the training of machinists. Includes goal setting and review, along with completion of annual performance review
Must be proficient in interpreting drawings
Hands on experience working with Fanuc and Siemens machine controls
Hand on team leadership experience including supervision, goal-setting, problem solving and follow up
Direct experience with root cause analysis associated with CNC machine tools, cutting tools and human performance

Supervises daily machine shop floor activities to efficiently allocate resources and coordinates workflow as determined by available work and equipment and assigns daily production duties to machinist
Collaborate with the Manufacturing Manager to review and analyse production, quality control, maintenance and operational issues to determine causes of nonconformity, production shortfalls, and operating concerns for remediation and implementation of appropriate corrective action.
Ensures adherence to compliance with company policies, rules and regulations and reporting requirements relating to safety / heath, performance standards, operating procedures, processes, and training requirements
Partners with the maintenance department to identify and resolve equipment maintenance issues
Oversee assembly fitting of components prior to machine set-up and machining. Oversee final assembly of components
Supervises daily machine shop floor activities to efficiently allocate resources and coordinates workflow as determined by available work and equipment and shop personnel availability
Accountable for recording manufacturing production activities into the inventory / production system within the Machine Shop and for online and post production variance analyses and corrective action
Must have thorough working knowledge of programming software and be able to identify CNC programming issues and requirement changes
Inspect completed work for conformance to specification using tools such as calipers, height gauges, micrometers, rulers etc.
