Durban - Our client is looking for a Routing and Scheduling Controller to optimize primary transport routing whilst ensuring continuous systems calibration and constant cost reduction and improvement in transport execution.
Education and Minimum Requirements : A 3-year Degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering or ManagementHonours degree would be preferableMinimum of 2 years’ experience in an FMCG transport environmentCompetencies : Plato / FLO system experience advantageousTransport master data managementVehicle Tracking and telematicsPeople leadership and Industrial RelationshipsWorking Knowledge of SAP R3SAP BW reporting SuiteQlikview reporting suite Responsibilities : To Ensure daily route plans deliver optimal productivity and service levelsFollow the execution of all loads to ensure delivery meets expectation.
Engage with carrier in the event of any exceptions to the plan which may result in late loading or late offloading.Liaise with the shipper if requested by providing load status updates and to report any issues en route which may result in a delayed shipment.
Ensure route plans are aligned to a set of prescribed shipper KPI’sEngage with carriers t once routing is complete to ensure alignment to planAssist and offer routing and scheduling advice to carriers.
Assist and offer planning advice to shippers.Conduct monthly analysis of carrier fleet utilizations including placing km and time delays at loading or offloading sites.
Daily monitoring of plan vs actual performance to ensure continuous improvementDaily engagement with carriers to gain insight into prior day issues experiencedReview of all previous day routes comparing plan vs actual.
Variances must be understood clearlyAll variances identified to be categorized into master data, ad hoc, once off and analyses bucketsFull problem solving and root cause analysis conducted on all relevant issues identifiedOnce root cause analysis is complete, build intelligence into Routing and Scheduling system to avoid repetitionDaily feedback to Optimization Manager on master data changes madeRegular review of current day load execution, engage carriers And fully understand current day riskUnderstand potential RD’s for the day.
Ensure these are communicated to shippersMonitor daily back door engagements. Ensure that trends are identified and maintained in master data ReportingGenerate reports on plan vs actual performanceCompile month end reports based on planning specific metricsReport back on all ad hoc issues arising, corrective actions taken and improvements shownCompile monthly efficiency reports by carrier and shipper and present these to Empty Trips leadership teamsMonthly feedback on performance against financial objectives and savings commitmentsCreate and maintain strong social systems with shippers and carriersDaily telecoms with carriers and shippers where relevant and leadership highlighting issues from previous dayFeedback on daily KPI’sEnsure clear lines of communication between shippers and carriersEnsure all operational KPI’s are achieved to drive budget spend complianceShipper Service levels achievedMaintain all planning related master dataAssist operations manager with new shipper and carrier onboarding processEnsure all master data fields are maintained alwaysMonitor and Manage quality of master data inputs through constant analysisMaster data quality reports submitted to Optimization manager weeklyProjects ManagedConduct Volume and activity smoothing exercises at least twice a year and present findings to the Optimization managerRegular TAT (Turnaround Time) analysis done.
