The main purpose of this role is to provide leadership and strategic direction in the currency management environment and specifically the Currency Management Department (CMD) of the Bank in order to ensure an integrated, multidisciplinary currency management function.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas :
Provide leadership and strategic direction to the CMD.
Analyse, review and develop strategies in line with the banks Strategic Focus Area (SFA) 5.
Formulate policies and procedures, and provide leadership and strategic direction to the national and regional cash value chain by liaising with the banking industry, the financial services sector and the cash sector on matters of strategic relevance.
Ensure and maintain integrity of currency and the publics confidence therein.
Manage industry-wide projects in the cash value chain, and implement the cash management strategies nationally and regionally.
Ensure an optimal supply of currency, and identify and manage the associated risks in order to limit losses as far as practically possible, in coordination with the SARBs currency-producing subsidiaries and cash centres.
Manage the relationships with currency suppliers.
Coordinate business continuity planning for thebanks cash value chain and the cash industry.
Direct and coordinate the CMDs financial and budgeting activities in order to fund and conduct cash operations in an effective and efficient manner in support of the overall strategic objectives of the bank.
Create a performance culture in the CMD, define performance expectations, and conduct effective performance management of direct reports.
Oversee the development of current and future departmental capabilities required for enhanced organisational effectiveness.
Build effectiveness through engaged people and internal integration for enhanced organisational performance.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have :
The minimum of a four-year Degree or an Honours Degree (NQF8) in Commerce, Supply Chain Management or Business Management; and
At least 12-15 years of experience in the currency management or cash operations environment, with a solid track record of senior and strategic management experience.
A postgraduate management qualification (e.g. An MBA) would be an advantage.
Experience in a banking environment would be advantageous.
