Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa Limited (MRoA) has been operating in South Africa for almost 50 years, although the Munich Re (Group) was active on the Continent via Munich Re in Munich for some years prior to commencing the Southern African operation in Johannesburg in 1968.

The Head Office of MRoA is in Johannesburg, with a client service Life office situated in Cape Town.

Your job

This position bears responsibility for : Contribution to and assistance with all analysis and review tasks performed in order to satisfy the requirements of the Risk Function :

  • establish the risk management framework, as approved by the Risk and Compliance Committee and reviewed by the Board
  • regularly report on risk management progress and issues to the Risk and Compliance Committee
  • collaborate with internal audit resources to ensure proper control of risks and adherence to procedures
  • provide reasonable assurance that adequate mechanisms and procedures are established, implemented and maintained Risk Function is responsible to :
  • facilitate the identification of individual and aggregated risks (current and emerging) that MRoA faces;
  • assess, monitor and help manage identified risks effectively;
  • gain and maintain an aggregated view of the risk profile of MRoA;
  • establish a forward-looking assessment of the risk profile and financial position of MRoA, including the conducting of regular stress testing and scenario analyses against the risk appetite and risk limits of MRoA;
  • assess the appropriateness of MRoA’s policies, processes, and controls in respect of risk management and the effective monitoring thereof by MRoA; and
  • conduct regular assessments of the risk function and the risk management system and implement or monitor the implementation of any needed improvements.
  • Your profile

    Minimum Formal Education and Required Work Experience

  • At least 2 years’ work experience in enterprise risk management;
  • Report writing and documentation skills;
  • The ability to analyse and interpret risk management information;
  • The ability to make decisions and work towards and meet deadlines;
  • The ability to assist in co-ordinating projects
  • Understanding of reinsurance
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Presentation and training skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative framework
  • Key Skills required

  • Ability to interact with clients and provide specialist advice
  • Analyse and interpret results to produce credible and sensible solutions
  • Manage priorities and adhoc tasks
  • Self-Starter
  • Self-motivated and proactive
