The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges.

Main purpose of the job
To Support the monitoring, evaluation, reporting and data quality functions of the HIV Self Testing project. Perform quality assurance activities in accordance with the Project Quality Assurance Plan and Oversee Electronic and paper based Data Capturing (EDC) process including query resolution

Key performance areas
Contribute to the development of programme M&E documentation (e.g. M&E plans, reporting templates etc.)
Provide support to programme and sub-partner staff to promote and implement the M&E framework including data management SOPs
Support the design and implementation of program evaluation as per the project protocol
Support the ongoing data management of the HIV self-testing data in the project database
Work closely with the project M&E team to facilitate M&E capacity-building activities; support the training / mentoring at sites on data collection tools and processes, indicators, data use, data quality assurance and reporting
Assist in preparation of monthly and quarterly data reports and contribute to other required technical reports
Write reports capturing program results, success stories, challenges and lessons learned
Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) related activities including support to research studies / surveys / evaluations planned by the project
Supervise & support data capturers through motivation, direction, review and feedback of assigned tasks
Ensure that data management documentation standards are always adhered to and data cleaning before quarterly cohort reporting
Develop and maintain a system that will generate accurate and complete project data by ensuring compliance with project protocols and operating procedures
Monitors source queries and data entry errors and facilitates appropriate training
Assess staff awareness and compliance to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Protocol requirements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Regulatory Essential Documents per sponsor requirements, specifically Electronic Data Capture (EDC) guidelines
Required minimum education and training
Honours Degree (or equivalent) in M&E, Public Health, Statistics, Population Studies (Demography), Economics or in related / relevant field
Required minimum work experience
2-3 years’ experience in a research environment in M&E and / or quality assurance
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
A post graduate degree in relevant field would be an added advantage
Thorough, with good attention to detail
Ordered and systematic, with a tendency to adhere to protocols
Demonstrable experience in performing data analysis and interpreting results correctly
Demonstrable experience using statistical software such as STATA, SPSS or SAS
Strong computer skills particularly in spreadsheets and data management skills
Experience in planning and managing surveys
M&E capacity building and mentoring
Good interpersonal, communication, presentation, and analytical skills
Demonstrated knowledge of M&E, practices and research methods is desired
Good command of English- both written and spoke
Perform other duties as required
Experience in scientific software and in writing publications will be an advantage
Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Be tactful and respectful
Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
Good administrative skills
Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
