An international microbiology instrumentation and consumables company is seeking the above to establish and lead the medical affairs activities in English speaking Africa.
Minimum requirements for the role :
Must be a qualified Medical Doctor with the relevant tertiary qualifications as well as direct experience in clinical medicine, infectious diseases and laboratory medicine and experience in the syndromic approach, medical outcomes, HIV, Sepsis and AMR in particular.
The successful incumbent will be travelling extensively into and looking after a geographic scope including English speaking Africa with a key focus on South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Ghana.
Must have excellent knowledge of current hospital, clinical and medical issues with experience in the reimbursement environment.
Clinical trial experience would be an advantage, as would experience within the pharmaceutical / IVD industry.
Must have strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills, creative problem-solving skills and decisiveness as well as excellent presentation and training skills.
Must have a proven track record, project management, teamwork, leadership, timely decision making and results orientation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for :
Establishing and leading the medical affairs activities in English speaking Africa.
Actively contributing to the ongoing development of Medical Affairs in the country, region or cluster, in collaboration with Area Managers, General Managers and Global Medical Affairs.
Keeping up-to-date with scientific and medical knowledge in the areas of interest for the company (mainly infectious diseases, microbiology and acute care) in order to provide relevant advice to relevant stakeholders within the company and influencers.
Attending pertinent sessions of healthcare-associated meetings (government, Non-Governmental Organisations, medical, funders and patients, etc.).
Engaging at high level to influence treatment guidelines.
Identifying, engaging and developing long term relationships with current and rising thought leaders (Key Opinion Leaders, experts and others) in infectious diseases, laboratory medicine, critical care and other relevant specialties, as well as with key and relevant healthcare institutional personnel i.
e. laboratory personnel, infection control and Pharmacists, etc.
Building a strong network of pertinent and relevant Key Opinion Leaders in order to obtain relevant advice, expert opinion, collaboration, guideline development and clinical studies, etc.
Contributing to medical educational (both internally and externally) in line with the company’s strategy.
Identifying potential research gaps and leading / contributing to local post market studies (liaising with Investigators, creating and validating of study design, studying and monitoring as well as analysing results, etc.).
Assisting with increasing the medical and scientific visibility of the company through scientific publications, symposia and workshops.
Participating in professional and medical societies, developing contacts with healthcare authorities and making medical and outcome-
based presentations to a broad range of stakeholders.
Informing corporate functions regarding local unmet medical needs and providing appropriate medical expertise, when and if needed, as the Internal Medical Expert for the subsidiary or region.
Managing financial indicators (revenue and budget, etc.) including the management of local consultant, experts, Key Opinion Leader budgets, financial planning and budgets for local post-
market studies and communications.
Managing Key Performance Indicators and developing quality liaison with Key Opinion Leader and experts.
Managing and maintaining relationships with key contacts (internal / external) and interfaces.
