CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate the learning process in Taxation for undergraduate and / or postgraduate students, the majority of whom intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Facilitate the learning process in Taxation (by taking responsibility for course material, lectures, tutorials and setting and moderating assessments) for undergraduate and / or postgraduate students, the majority of whom intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA) both day and evening groups.
  • Supervise postgraduate students
  • Undertake research and scholarly activities.
  • Engage with professional bodies and other stakeholders.
  • Perform related administrative duties.
  • CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Sound knowledge (lecturer / senior lecturer) / in-depth knowledge (associate professor) in the theory and application of South African Tax legislation, case law, recent trends and developments in the field, evidenced, among others, by a strong record of accomplishment of academic performance in the subject area.
  • Experience in facilitating learning for undergraduate (lecturer) and / or postgraduate (senior lecturer / associate professor) students intending to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA).
  • Potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge in research and publication (lecturer).
  • Relevant knowledge of research methodologies in the field of professional taxation and potential to supervise postgraduate students (senior lecturer) or have experience in supervision of postgraduate students (associate professor) or be engaged in research and scholarly activities.
  • The innate desire to deliver work of an excellent standard.
  • Very strong communication (written / verbal) skills.
  • Initiative and the motivation to work without needing extensive supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Added advantages and preferences :

  • Experience in the facilitation and management of large student groups;
  • Experience in blended learning practices;
  • Involvement in professional activities or with professional bodies or other stakeholders.
  • REQUIREMENTS

    In order to be considered for the Associate Professor rank, candidates should :

  • Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa);
  • Be in possession of a Master’s degree (NQF 9 qualification) specialising in South African Taxation with a developing research profile or a national standing within the field of Taxation; and
  • Have 4 -7 years (i.e. extensive) relevant and / or related work experience specialising in South African Taxation and / or in the facilitation of learning in postgraduate South African Taxation courses.
  • In order to be considered for the senior lecturer rank, candidates should :

  • Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa);
  • Be in possession of an honours degree or equivalent NQF 8 qualification specialising in South African Taxation*; and
  • Have 3 7 years relevant or related working experience in South African Taxation and / or the facilitation of learning in postgraduate South African Taxation courses.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have made progress towards a Masters degree specialising in South African Taxation
  • In order to be considered for the lecturer rank, candidates should :

  • Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) (or should have passed the professional examinations and be in the final year of obtaining the designation);
  • Be in possession of an honours degree or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification specialising in South African Taxation*; and
  • Have at least 3 years relevant or related working experience in South African Taxation and / or the facilitation of learning in undergraduate South African Taxation courses.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have made progress towards a Masters degree specialising in South African Taxation
  • As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to prepare and present a simulated lecture or technical report to a screening panel.
