Job Purpose

  • To manage, provide advice and input into research, analysis, interpretation, development and maintenance of AML, CFT and sanctions strategic requirements based on regulatory requirements and informed by best practice and manage the delivery of regulatory risk awareness and associated with money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions risk management to ensure strategic local and international regulatory standards across the Nedbank Group are met.
  • Job Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to stakeholders on Counter Terrorist Financing and sanctions (AML, CFT and Sanctions) strategic risk management requirements by engaging formally and informally to ensure understanding and compliance regulatory requirements and alignment with best practice in terms of risk management.
  • Ensure identification of likelihood and probability of being imposed with a regulatory risk penalty, criminal liability and / or administrative sanction, through managing the assessment, management of regulatory risk requirements and implementation.
  • Provide input into the delivery of strategic solutions, including projects, systems and initiatives through interpretation and application of best practice and regulatory risk requirements to ensure effective delivery of strategic requirements.
  • Interact with stakeholders, through formal and informal engagements to build and maintain collaborative relationships and to ensure alignment of regulatory requirements as set by South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
  • Manage engagement of, and interact with stakeholders to provide clarification, advice, guidance and assistance related to strategic requirements to ensure mitigation of risks associated with money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions.
  • Engage with joint venture partners through formal interaction to ensure alignment and compliance to Nedbank strategic risk management requirements related to money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions.
  • Identify development opportunities and career progression for self through input and feedback from management to improve personal capability and to stay abreast of developments in field of expertise.
  • Share knowledge of identified risks in respect of best practice and regulatory risk requirements with stakeholders during formal and informal interaction so that relevant upskilling takes place and effective handover and delegation to relevant responsible person for actioning.
  • Participate in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (eg Surveys etc.) and encourage team participation thereby contributing to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or enhance business processes and methodologies by implementing and recommending improvement initiatives and effective ways to operate and add value to Nedbank.
  • Manage and provide input into the identification, assessment and management of risk through development and maintenance of risk assessments.
  • Providing input into Business As Usual policies, principles and processes to ensure alignment with best practice and regulatory risk requirements.
  • Develop strategic principles and processes to ensure sustainable strategic compliance. Assess and review internal controls and documentation for quality assurance and ensure corrective action is taken where required.
  • Ensure distribution and creation of awareness of strategic internal controls, information and documentation through monitoring and follow-up to ensure awareness is created.
  • Manage and facilitate understanding of implementation and interpretation of strategic risk requirements through actionable internal controls and documentation to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure the analysis and accurate identification of risks and gaps through review of relevant information to mitigate risks associated with money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions.
  • Utilise resources effectively and efficiently by delegating deliverables according to specialised skills-set to ensure work completed to correct standard and expectations.
  • Minimum Experience Level

    4+ years in Risk Management and / or AML / CTF and Sanctions (Compliance Management)

    Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Advanced Diplomas / National 1st Degrees
  • Preferred Qualification

  • BA Law and / or Bcomm
  • Preferred Certifications

  • Associated Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) or Anti-Money Laundering certification
