Your Responsibilities : Job Purpose :

  • To plan, direct and coordinate finance services functions of GSK South Africa AND GSK Consumer Healthcare entities :

    11. Provide similar services to the Viiv South Africa company

  • To ensure adequate Financial and Management controls are in place to support the GSK divisions and entities.
  • Support the commercial ambition of the business via cross functional engagement
  • Interface with GMS finance team to achieve financial and management reporting.
  • Scope :

  • Assisting the Finance Director and Commercial business partners in the preparation of reports and ad-hoc tasks
  • The responsibilities cover coordination of all financial services activities and other departments (Marketing, distribution, Sales, Administration, production and IT) with in GSK South Africa.
  • Managing the strategic alliances between GSK and its suppliers of goods and services across all categories, local regulatory agencies and other GSK sites through collaborations and information sharing.
  • Management of the Corporate reporting- Financial reporting and External Audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and IFRS reporting requirements through maintenance of general ledger records.
  • Management of eight shared service finance staff and activities
  • Essential Job Responsibilities

    Team Management :

  • Overall management of the shared services function that services the Consumer, Pharma, R&D and medical divisions within GSK.
  • Managing the payroll function i.e.. Meeting deadlines and information submission.
  • Managing the shipping and systems accounting function.
  • Managing Accounts payable function
  • Managing General accounting function
  • Manage talent within direct reports, build succession planning within the team and ensure team is exposed to new opportunities where available.
  • Identifying the training and development needs through performance appraisal.
  • Recruitment of the right mix of staff in collaboration with human resources department.
  • Constructive feedback to enhance performance.
  • Coaching and mentoring where necessary.
  • Treasury Management :

  • Perform a monthly and annual cash flow analysis
  • Determine when dividends are payable
  • To ensure good governance and compliance with financial manual of the GSK Group
  • To ensure the banking relationships are maintained and well managed.
  • Explore opportunities to obtain cash requirements at lowest cost possible.
  • Inventory Management :

  • Drive a Working Capital reduction program across the Southern Africa business by partnering with demand planning, implementing best practice and ensuring delivery of Working Capital targets
  • Stock taking and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with policies and improve the control environment on a continuous basis
  • Accounts Receivable Management :

  • Manage trade receivable balances from a working capital perspective
  • Responsible for credit control and collections minimising risk across the region and ensuring on time collection of trade receivables balances >
  • £25m

  • Responsible for managing the relationship with IHS where credit control is outsourced to.
  • Drive compliance with credit control policy and reduce incidence of bad debt and expensive debt administration costs.
  • Ensure Sales are recorded correctly and sales cut-off is managed in line with IFRS
  • Accounts Payable Management :

  • Authorise and releases payments to creditors after ensuring that all required documentation is correct and relevant processes have been followed.
  • Manage trade payables balances from a working capital perspective
  • Payroll Management :

  • Management of payroll function
  • Monthly sign-off of payroll and variance reviews.
  • Ensure internal check of payroll input is adequate to guarantee completeness and data integrity
  • Ensure legal compliance and implement savings where possible
  • Fixed Assets Management :

  • Review and manage fixed assets within the company
  • Financial reporting and Management report ( Bisonand SB14) :

  • Review monthly all balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring that accounts reflect only correct and relevant data.
  • Controls closing off of the General Ledger at month end by ensuring that all data for month has been processed. Reviewing standard Trial Balances, income Statement and Balance Sheet reports on a monthly basis
  • Providing an accurate reporting service which is performed timeously by managing and reviewing the bison reporting codes within JDE together with the systems accountant.
  • Assist with delivery of all financial performance metrics in line with agreed targets.
  • Accurate and complete monthly financial statements and other management reports ( Flash Sales, bison and SB14 etc) in line with GSK defined guidelines and stipulations of the International Financial Reporting statements (IFRS)
  • Preparing monthly pack for Board meeting
  • Provision of advisory services to the business on matters of corporate governance, corporate financial reporting and disclosures requirements.
  • Tax Planning and Administration :

  • Drive prompt payment of taxes and management tax audit / queries
  • Effective management of tax compliance with the laws of SARS and payments.
  • Other Statutory requirements :

  • Prepare annual financial statements for all relevant entities in conjunction with the auditors
  • Prepare, comply and submit all other statutory information required from the relevant entity to the country authorities.
  • Manage statutory queries and audits
  • Management of annual audits :

  • The conduct of periodic audit and manage the external Audit.
  • Adequacy and correctness of management responses to the management control reports issued by the external auditors from time to time.
  • Other :

  • Ad hoc projects as they arise.
  • Management of Quality policies and standard operating procedures as well as knowledge documents of the finance team incorporating the function of the OE champion.
  • Development of policies and standard operating Procedures to support proper running of the businesses and safeguards the assets of the companies.
  • Drive cross functional engagements within other units.
  • Effective management of Insurance portfolios and relationships with the Insurance brokers.

  • Basic qualifications : Qualifications : Matric

    University -

    Minimum BCom Degree in a financial background

    Work Experience :

    Relevant experience of 5 to 10 years

    Member of Professional Accounting Body

    Experience :

    1. 5 -10 years financial accounting experience

    2. Management experience.

    3. JD Edwards computer, general ledger and accounts payable knowledge.

    4. Payroll knowledge

    5. Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    6. People Management

    7. Relevant experience in FMCG environments supplemented by general business and professional accounting background.

    8. Strong ERP exposure

    9. Working knowledge of IFRS.

    Knowledge :

  • Technical accounting knowledge.
  • JD Edwards knowledge (all modules & file structures).
  • Understanding of business systems interfacing into the financial system.
