Energy Management Specialist A position has become available for an Energy Management Specialist to join our team in Sandton.
Job Purpose : Energy Management function will be responsible for overall management of energy and commercial activities for all power plants under Operations & Maintenance portfolio.
During the operation phase of the Facilities, Energy Management is required to closely work with respective functions within EGP RSA to ensure all activities are as per the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and contribute positively to achieve the best performance in line with company objectives and goals.
Ensure monthly energy invoice settlement and energy & revenue reporting to the relevant stakeholders within the EGP.Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Analyses market trends and movements for commodities and power.
Assures Energy Management activities for the Country and supports analysis on new business development opportunities with particular reference to commercial risk and eventual market exposure, in conjunction with Business Development, Commercial Office, Regulatory Departments and other Departments.
Relates with the Eskom and other Energy Buyers for all the themes related to Grid Code and despatching of Enel Green Power plants.
Generate Daily, Weekly and Monthly production forecast using statistical and meteorological techniquesAssures the management of all Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) contracts for each of power plant in operation, providing daily production forecast to Eskom Single Buyer Office (SBO) and other Energy BuyersManages the relationship with Eskom and other Energy Buyers for all commercial mattersAnalyses and monitor eventual commodity risk of the managed portfolio, report to Central Risk ControlCollects measurements of energy management produced and consumed on the competent grid, communicate outages and planned maintenance with Eskom SBO and other Energy BuyersAssist in developing energy budget within Operations & Maintenance section.
Conduct analysis on energy revenues for both short and long term using consumer price index and approximated tariff escalation.
Responsible for energy and revenue Risk Book for South African OperationsAssures and maintain periodical relations with central Energy Management units for best practice sharing activities and business share.
Support Commercial Office to originate renewable energy contracts identifying opportunities for negotiated Power Purchase Agreements and non-
traditional off takers, involving relevant local sales forces;Manage Energy Management responses to local Requests for Proposals and Power Purchase Agreements to structure offersSupport the definition agreements terms and negotiation of local Power Purchase Agreements and renewable energy certificates / credits,Liaise with Global Commercial Origination unit, Business Development teams, and also with the relevant Global Trading and Upstream Gas and Market unitsDefine and keep up-
to-date revenue models during the non-binding offer phase, and to support Global Structuring and Pricing unit in the same activities during binding offer phase, in both cases liaising with Business Development units, Planning and Control unit and relevant Global Trading and Upstream Gas unitsSupport Global Structuring and Pricing unit and Business Development teams for regulated auction bidding strategy and pricing definition and the related Power Purchase Agreements analysis, involving the local Global Trading and Upstream Gas units.
Conduct studies of Eskom tariffs evolution and assist in preparation of the bidding price for Private Off-takers using Financial Model, Multi-
Year Price Determination, Integrated Resource Plan and other reliable sources.Support the derivation renewable power plant portfolio derivatives product assessmentSupport the implementation of energy metering strategy and maintenance thereafter for all revenue meters and data loggersAssures energy budget and on a monthly basis assures payment and invoicing for purchased and sold energy, determining incomes, costs and energy margin, also for accounting closing purposes, managing the relation with the Single Buyer offices (Eskom).
Assures periodical reporting. Maintains structured and periodical relations with central Energy Management units for best practice sharing activities and business share.
Manages all activities related to development of projects for obtaining CERs titles, or CO2 allowances, or titles to valorize on the voluntary market.
Supports Regulatory Dpt. for analyzing the impact of new regulation.Supports central EGP Energy Management Dpt. for the analysis on new business opportunities in the African Continent.
Other Duties : Provide support to Commercial Office and Business Development Units on new commercial projects developments and required analytics.
Support O&M with technical investigations, where necessary, to improve plant reliability availability and maintainability.
Support the development of new projects, as required by different Units within EGPKnowledge, Skills and Abilities : Good knowledge of math, statistics, quantitative methods of analysis.
Strong knowledge of basic software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point). WB programming or advanced use of Excel ( macro) is a plus.
Knowledge of technical software is a plus (data provider as Bloomberg or Reuters, software for analysis as Risk, statistical software as R).
The candidate will be trained on specific Energy Management software used in EGP and will use the same and customized software in EGP SA.
Valid Driver's License.Qualifications and Experience : Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical-scientific field accredited by recognized South Africa Council or InstituteAt least 3 years work experience in power utility sector, preferable renewable energy within energy management or similar role.
Excellent knowledge of national and international contracts in the energy sector, with specific focus on PPA contracts used under the REIPPP programme.
Detailed knowledge of REIPPP programme in South AfricaCharacteristics and composition of power prices, experience on power pools and on system marginal price pricing methods.
Technical knowledge of power plants is preferable, in particular knowledge of renewable plants (wind and solar).Experience on power plants dispatching, grid management, and metering systems.
