We are seeking an ethical, vigilant and independent risk and compliance manager to take up the role of Head of Legal, Risk & Compliance for KGA Life at our head office in Stellenbosch.
The main duties will include : Full responsibility for ensuring KGA is compliant by overseeing the implementation and maintenance of an effective and well-
monitored regulatory compliance framework. To protect KGA from regulatory and reputational risks by establishing a clear risk framework, setting common standards, assessing adherence to standards, and providing training and guidance.
Responsible for the effective implementation of risk and compliance plans and monitoring programmes. Establish and maintain a compliance culture in the group.
Improve compliance awareness through risk identification, stakeholder engagement and create strategies to effectively determine and manage the broader regulatory risk environment.
Lead a highly motivated compliance function which takes accountability for the regulatory and reputational risks falling within this function.
Ensure proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorised enforcement agencies as appropriate and / or required.
Support and guide business decision-making by providing risk and compliance inputs and options to facilitate the execution of business initiatives.
Manage new regulatory requirements by evaluating regulations identified as relevant to the business and provide an impact analysis relevant to the business.
Address impacts, including policy amendments, business notifications and provision of training. Be the accountable key regulatory and enterprise risk owner for the company.
Develop, implement and oversee the enterprise and compliance risk management strategy as part of the broader company strategy.
Qualifications and experience : LLB, BComm (Law), or relevant qualification. Certificate / Diploma in Compliance Management.
5 years relevant experience performing a compliance and / or risk management function in the insurance industry, specifically relating to the operations of a Category I FSP at a management level.
FSCA FAIS approved as a Compliance Officer for Category I and II Financial Services Providers. Member of CISA. Essential behavioural competencies and knowledge : Ability to formulate and implement strategies and concepts.
Excellent communication and report writing skills. Analytical thinking and problem-solving. Self-motivated, mature and able to use initiative with a strong hands-
on approach. Control focused mind-set and good understanding of regulatory and reputational risks. Excellent planning, organising and time management skills.
Independent with an ability to work towards deadlines on own. A discreet and confidential manner with confidence, persuasiveness and the ability to motivate colleagues.
Ability to make decisions quickly and effectively. Client service orientated. Strong working knowledge of GOI, Companies Act and the King Code on Corporate Governance.
Comply with the same requirements determined by the Registrar under the Insurance Act in respect of personal character qualities of honesty and integrity.
Familiarity with the relevant compliance reporting requirements in South Africa. Up to date knowledge of the following legislation : Long-
