GBS Mutual Bank operates predominantly in the long-term deposit, mortgage finance and asset-backed finance markets. The Bank’s Head Office functions are located in Grahamstown, with branch operations in Grahamstown, Port Alfred, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

The Bank’s Internal Auditor is required to work collaboratively with management to implement, monitor and enhance the internal control environment.

As a data-intensive organisation, the Bank requires internal audit procedures that fully embrace technology enablers to facilitate holistic data quality checks and control reviews.

The Bank continues to embrace new technologies to better service our clients, to grow our brand, and to help us efficiently manage our business, and the Bank’s Internal Auditor is therefore required to remain up-

to-date with relevant technologies, and to work collaboratively with the relevant experts to ensure that IT controls and policies are also aligned with best-

practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following : Planning, performing and reporting on quarterly operational and IT control reviews, in accordance with a pre-

  • defined scope; Setting the scope of audit work in conjunction with the Audit Committee, External Audit and with input from senior management;
  • Holistic data reviews to help detect, and drive the resolution of, quality issues or to validate transactional integrity;
  • Engaging with management to propose, design and implement appropriate controls for new business lines / products, for new system implementations, or to enhance organisational efficiency or resilience (both technology-

    related or otherwise); Regular liaison with external audit to ensure alignment of scope; Regular liaison with the Chair / members of the Audit Committee to ensure that scope, deliverables and work progress are well understood by all stakeholders.

  • Relevant degree and experience with demonstrable evidence of understanding of common internal control environments, and IT controls;
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience preferably within the Financial Services sector; Highly proficient in relevant information technologies with demonstrable data-
