Introduction AVBOB, AFRICA's Largest Mutual Assurance Society Providing a One-Stop Funeral Insurance and Burial Solutions, Has a Vacancy For a Junior Support and Groupwise Administrator Job Functions Information Technology Industries Financial Services,Information Technology,Insurance Specification RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

Actively participates in the technical planning, design, maintenance and support of Groupwise, Linux and

Linux systems of all AVBOB agencies and at Head Office

Documenting plans, requests, activities and specifications and report on them

Perform system upgrades.

Organise quotes, design systems, arrange and project manage implementations and coordinate various 3rd party providers

Implements and maintains Groupwise, Linux and Unix solutions systems to ensure uptime and reliability by providing guidance and advice to business

Knowledge sharing on researched latest Microfocus and SoftwareAG products relevant to AVBOB’s


Support and troubleshoot Groupwise, Linux and Unix environments.

Ensures that backup and scheduling of software maintenance is undertaken timeously of all Groupwise,

Linux and Unix facilities / systems across the Group.

Document and keep records of all Groupwise, Linux and Unix systems and their related interconnections.

Diagnoses malfunctions of Groupwise, Linux and Unix for the purpose of identifying needed repairs

and / or ensuring equipment is in proper working order.

Verifies service by testing and reprogramming circuits, equipment and alarms.

Ensures that forward planning is taken place around Groupwise, Linux and Unix technologies in line with

improved technological advancement in order for growth, sustainability and business continuity.

Ensures that all solutions adhere to approved quality assurance processes. All operational tasks to be in compliance with approved SOP’s.

Track and monitor SLA's with the external service providers.

Provide technical support on advisory capacity to all stakeholders where possible and sustain a productive customer relationship.

Assist with the asset verification and budget alignment.

Provide management reports.

Support users, update and report on tickets in the service desk system as per SLA’s.

Highlight abuse of costs and systems.

Implement systems according to industry best practice.

Deliver exceptional client service. Requirements QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION :

Relevant Degree (Groupwise, Linux and Unix)

Suse / Groupwise Certified Engineer

HPUX Certified Engineer


Stakeholder focus

Knowledge of enterprise mail systems.

Knowledge of enterprise Linux and Unix Systems.

3 Years’ technical experience in mail systems

3 Years’ technical experience in Linux and Unix

2 Years’ experience managing 3rd party suppliers


Knowledge of hardware and software specifications.

Knowledge of market related tendencies and best practices.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Accurate, figure orientated and focus on detail.
