Clinical Nurse Mentor - Locum Western Cape

Clinical Nurse Mentor - Locum Western Cape

  • Situational analysis in all facilities
  • o Assess the local situation and develop a plan in line with the District Implementation Plan.

    o Reviews infection control plans and provides feedback and recommendations to Facility Managers

  • Mentor on implementation of infection control
  • Diagnosis , care and adherence support
  • o Encourages provider-initiated testing and counseling

  • Ensures that TB screening is done at every HIV care visit
  • Ensures that eligible people living with HIV are offered isoniazid preventive therapy
  • o Ensures that HIV-positive clients have CD4 counts done

    o Ensures that HIV-positive clients are staged

    o Ensures that eligible HIV-positive clients are started on ART as per new guidelines

    o Ensures that 95% of clients on ART receive ART for 6 out of 6 months

    o Ensures that all clients on ART have a viral load at 6 and 12 months and then as per guidelines

    o Ensures that TB clients are tested for HIV

    o Ensures that HIV-positive TB clients are given cotrimoxazole and ART according National Health Guidelines

    o Ensures that all HIV+ pregnant women are started on full ART

    o Ensures that all HIV-exposed infants are PCR tested at 6 weeks of age; PCR+ babies are started on ART

  • Capacity building
  • o Trains clinical staff (nurses, linkage officers, community health workers) in line with the district training plan.

    o Mentors by providing technical assistance and guidance on all aspects of HAST programme

    o Stays abreast of all new developments with respect to procedures, protocols and clinical care issues.

  • Operational Research
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the mentorship programme
  • Management of staff
  • Submits weekly timesheets and weekly plans to manager
  • Submits monthly report in the format provided to manager
  • Participates in hospital, district, and PHC meetings; support multi-disciplinary team approach to managing clients
  • Coordinates regular staff meetings with linkage officers and clinic staff (on site); in addition to non-clinical HAST Teams
  • Attends technical team meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Honours Degree in Primary Health Care from college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and / or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    SANC Registered

  • Valid Code 08 Drivers Licence
  • NIMART
  • 2 years Supervisory experience
  • Candidates must reside in the Eastern Cape and available immediately
