The University of Cape Town invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for this challenging position, which is vital to the ongoing conceptualisation of UCT’s strategy within the Higher Education (HE) context, including the implementation of the University’s Vision 2030 and the effective management of all related planning systems.
The nature of the position is permanent and the successful incumbent will be expected to commence employment as soon as possible.
The Director will be the Head of the Institutional Planning Department, currently comprising the Institutional Information Unit and the Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Unit.
This post reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) and as such plays key role in providing leadership in relation to institutional planning functions.
The successful incumbent should have a proven record of leadership in public higher education in South Africa, a demonstrable record of nuanced insight into the South African higher education landscape and its regulatory frameworks, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and clear evidence of an ability to think strategically.
Requirements : The successful candidate will possess an NQF9 qualification. A minimum of 10 years recent and relevant work experience, of which at least 7 years’ experience must be at a management level in a public higher education environment.
Sound understanding of the South African higher education policy environment. A strong track record in policy analysis and in guiding the development of institutional policies and frameworks.
Strong analytical skills for strategy development, including the ability to use and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform planning and decision making.
A comprehensive knowledge of HEMIS and national Higher Education Funding Framework. Communication and negotiating abilities as well as excellent presentation, relationship management and facilitation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent report writing skills. A meticulous approach to the work; self-motivation and confidence.
Responsibilities : Oversight of institutional research, management information provision, analytics and data-driven planning and decision making.
Oversight of processes for development,implementation and monitoring of UCT’s Vision 2030. Ensuring statutory compliance, fulfilment of reporting obligations, and coordinating responses to national policy.
Oversight of academic planning, quality assurance and enrolment planning. Collaboration with relevant stakeholders to design and implement systems to improve student success.
Supporting institutional resource allocation processes and strategic budget alignment. Facilitation of UCT’s national and international engagements, and relevant policy analysis.
