Cost and Management Accountant Cape Town Our client, a leader in the Retail Décor industry, is currently looking for an experienced Cost and Management Accountant to ensure professional and ethical financial practices and a cohesive finance service offering that is aligned with business strategy, so as to ensure the functionality and sustained profitability of the Company.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling the costing, raw material physical control and purchasing, IT and logistics activities, and will also assume a strategic role in the overall management of the Company.

  • Duties and Responsibilities Costing methodology and analysis Utilising the Configurators, provide a monthly analysis of the variance between theoretical usage of raw materials in the manufacturing process compared to the actual usage Provide monthly analysis of labour efficiency in the manufacturing process Create a template to reflect the monthly margins achieved per product group Contribute fully to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers Work with the Financial Manager to create and maintain the models utilized in determining price increases on products Formulate and implement finance policies and procedures for the company with respect to costing, to ensure achievement of the company’s financial objectives, monitoring for compliance Ensure that company costing systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions;
  • provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities, and provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations Provide recommendations to improve profitability and margins Work with the Managing Director and Financial Manager to identify potential new business opportunities / sources of revenue Work with the Product Development team to ensure that any changes or improvements to existing products are costed correctly Work with the Product Development team to ensure accurate costings of newly developed products.

    Raw materials stores and Despatch Responsible to ensure that a goods receiving function is operational for all incoming raw materials Is responsible for the physical security of the raw materials store, the racking and storage therein and the identification / tagging of all items in this raw materials store Ensure that cycle counts are periodically performed on all items in the raw material store, and that a full 100% count of the raw material store is conducted at least once a year Ensure that accounting records accurately reflect the true value of inventory to within 98% accuracy or better Be responsible for the physical slow moving raw material store, as well as chair the committee setup to manage the identification and disposal of items in the raw material slow moving store ls responsible to ensure that a goods despatch function is operational for all outgoing finished goods Ensure that all despatched goods are invoiced timeously on Syspro Is responsible for the physical security of the Finished Goods store, the racking and storage therein and the identification / tagging of all items in this store.

    IT Liaise with the Group IT Steering Committee to ensure that all initiatives driven by the committee, are implemented and rolled out in the company Ensure that desktop support is provided to all employees in the company Ensure that hardware platforms are aligned to the group strategy, and that all security protocols and firmware are installed and regularly updated Ensure that all software applications deployed are aligned to group strategy as authorized by the Group IT Steering Committee Provide support to employees in the company on system reports generated / written from the various software platforms used Purchasing of both stock and non-stock items Ensure that all stock, spares and capex purchases are in line with the approval matrix mandate for the company Create a monthly raw material procurement plan for the company for approval by the Financial Manager and Managing Director This plan must take into account raw material requirements based on forecasted sales going forward, lead times, current stock on hand and on the water and cashflow constraints Ensure that systems and procedures are in place for the full purchasing cycle i.

    e. from determination of purchasing requirements, approval thereof, placement of order, foreign exchange cover where appropriate and receipt of raw materials Manage the non-stock purchasing system in line with the approval matrix for the company Inbound and Outbound logistics Manage the relationships with the internal and external logistics service providers and ensure annual Service Level Agreements are in place for all the logistics providers Constantly evaluate the pricing and service levels of the logistics providers against industry norms, and manage any issues arising from this directly with the service providers Outsourced Production Ensure that for all outsourced production service providers, that there are signed outsourcing agreements with these service providers Ensure that appropriate stock controls and costing procedures are implemented for all outsourced production Liaise with the Financial Manager to ensure that the company Insurers are timeously informed all stock / raw materials sent to an outsourced production service provider and that it is fully covered.
