Key job accountabilities :

The Instrumental Evaluation department is a specialized teamfocused on objective, scientific testing of innovative products in developmentby L’Oreal laboratories.

Testing methodsare developed, validated, and adjusted as needed to keep up with theexploration of novel properties of new formulas.

This team also executes research and developsknowledge of hair and skin properties, including its response to environmentand treatment, across various ethnicities.

This position will work on aid-to-formulation and innovationinstrumental testing and will assist in instrumental method development mostlyfor African Hair products, and African skin as a second priority.


  • Designs, proposes, and implements the instrumental test
  • plans for innovation projects

  • and task forces related toAfrican hair and skin;
  • Collaborates with labs,international colleagues, and
  • evaluation team to determine

  • which test methods are needed;
  • Drives projects from inceptionto completion with quality,
  • timeliness, and professionalism;
  • Prioritizes projects workloadwith supervisor, performs project
  • tracking and scheduling

  • Organizes, plans, and effectivelyexecutes instrumental
  • testing to support aid to formulation and innovationstudies

  • for local and international projects;
  • Analyzes instrumental test dataand writes reports and
  • memos to clearly communicate findings and share

  • information with colleagues;

  • Maintains instrumentation andlaboratory equipment and
  • ensures proper operation / maintenancedocumentation;
  • Maintains laboratory notebook inaccordance with standard
  • operating procedures; and

  • Develops ways to improveefficiency of daily operation of
  • the Instrumental Evaluation group


  • Works on development of new methods and improvement of
  • existing methods, and evaluates new equipment foruse in

  • innovation and aid to formulation testing;

  • Evaluates and summarizes published literature (internal and
  • external) on various topics surrounding hair and skintesting;
  • Works on expanding hairknowledge, with particular focus on
  • ethnic hair;
  • Technical & Professional competencies required :

  • Excellent interpersonal,communication (written / oral), and organizational skills;
  • Capable of working in a matrixorganization, including strong teamwork skills;
  • Technical writingskills;
  • Experience withexperimental lab work and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting;
  • Knowledge of hair,cosmetic properties and substrate product relationship a plus;
  • Proficiency instatistical and data analysis.

    Must be able to work onseveral complex projects at the same time with flexibility and organization;Curiosit

    Must be proficient in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Scientificsoftwares.

    EducationKnowledge & Experience

  • Bachelors with 5 7years of relevant working experience; OR Masters with 3 5 yearsof relevant working experience; OR PhD with 1 3 years of relevant workingexperience;
  • preferred areas of study include Biological, Physical or MaterialSciences, Chemical Engineering or Bio-Engineering or related fields;
  • Pluri-disciplinaryknowledge on :

    Optical system forcolor / shine and movement measurements

    Optical features ofsurface of the fibers (Microscopy)

    Physico-chemistryof materials
