Research Associate CLIENT INSIGHTS FINANCIAL INCLUSION (Masters Grads Only!!)DescriptionDescription

The Client is seeking a Research Associate to conduct and manage research, client engagement and resources (people & other) of projects.

This also involves actively shaping and conducting research and analysis, presenting on findings to stakeholders. The successful applicant will join a team of pathologically curious staff members of the highest quality and with a sustained interest in real-

world development and a desire to achieve impact beyond themselves.

Incumbent in this position will report to an Engagement Manager. The list below provides more detail.

Research & Analysis

  • Conduct thematic research and case studies on the application of data within the financial services industry
  • Conceptualise and implement appropriate research methodologies
  • Creating value by integrating research insights
  • Guide and design new concepts for packaging / presentation of information;
  • Production of written outputs and other mediums used for dissemination to stakeholders, including the accurate integration of project team members' input into final documents; and
  • Structure information and data into a usable format (e.g., drafting documents and presentations, etc.);
  • Packaging / presenting information effectively (i.e., achieving the desired impact) and disseminating findings and insights through oral presentations to employees and external stakeholders.
  • Projects & Project Management

  • Contribute to project concept development;
  • Generate proposals and concept notes
  • Project-based client engagement (Private sector, development agencies and other research organisations);
  • Research management;
  • Project management, and resource management (people & other);
  • Efficient and effective interaction with and management of junior team members, providing appropriate guidance to as required;
  • Providing feedback to management on progress and regarding capacity requirements;
  • Effective project administration, including time and budget optimisation, expenditure controls, clear communication of timelines and updates, effective utilisation of resources (human & non-
  • human) and overseeing of logistics scheduling;
  • Qualifications

    A Master's degree is essential (Economics / Mathematical Statistics / Applied Statistics / Mathematical Finance / Business / Psychology / Data Sciences / or related fields).

    Experience

  • 3 to 6 years of experience working in a consulting research environment (relating to financial services provision or financial inclusion), or operational experience within a research and analytics team of a large innovative FSP (a combination of both preferred).
  • An understanding of how FSPs interact with data to make decisions, and of the internal business dynamics of FSPs, including familiarity with how data and research functions can be organised within FSPs
  • Experience in producing high quality reports / research outputs, particularly for a private sector audience;
  • Experience in and understanding of the processes behind product development, particularly within Financial Service Providers;
  • Experience executing projects from conceptualisation phase to final output and
  • Experience in managing junior staff.
  • An understanding of the key players in the financial inclusion and donor space;
  • The following experience will be beneficial :

  • An understanding of the key players in the financial inclusion and donor space;
  • An understanding of quantitative and qualitative research using various methodologies; and
  • Experience and exposure to working in developing countries.
