The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for a Logistics Improvement Specialist , located in New Germany , South Africa .

The Logistics Improvement Senior Specialist will be part of the Dow Africa Logistics team and works with the Mode and Regional Leaders to execute projects that support improvements in service, efficiency, capacity, and / or cost-to-serve.

The role is primarily Southern Africa logistics related, but includes responsibility for Logistics projects across Africa.

The incumbent will report into and will work with the regional IMEA (India, Middle East & Africa).

As a Logistics Improvement Specialist you will :

  • execute improvement opportunities focusing on improving service, capacity and / or cost while enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • drive improvement projects across different stakeholders from kick-off to closure including change management and communication to stakeholders.
  • gather functional requirements for system design and enhancement.
  • support implementation of new business models / designs (including JVs, divestitures and acquisitions).
  • complete expense modeling and forecasting.
  • execute monthly close and budget reconciliation.
  • drive capital project development and execution.
  • optimize maintenance spend and payment.
  • be involved in Improvement and Capital projects.
  • support improvement opportunities focusing on improving service, capacity and / or cost while enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • support improvement projects across different stakeholders from kick-off to closure including change management and communication to stakeholders.
  • gather functional requirements for system design and enhancement.

  • drive improvement projects across different stakeholders from kick-off to closure including change management and communication to stakeholders.
  • lead gathering of functional requirements for system design and enhancement.
  • support implementation of new business models / designs (including JVs, divestitures and acquisitions).
  • complete expense modeling and forecasting.
  • execute monthly close and budget reconciliation.
  • lead capital project development and execution.
  • optimize maintenance spend and payment.
  • execute emerging geography supply chain efficiency and improvement projects - function and business.
  • Key Job Responsibilities

  • Apply logistics system knowledge as required by the functional role.
  • Resolve Strategic / Tactical logistics issues and conflicts and escalate as appropriate.
  • Track and monitor all projects within Africa.
  • Own and facilitate the Dow Logistics Material Flow Work Process implementation in the region.
  • Represent Dow towards authorities on following topics (Advocacy) : Logistics infrastructure, Road compliance, regulations, safety and security.
  • Support administrative activities in Dow's ERP (Enterprise resource planning) systems.
  • Coordinate logistics improvement activities between company (businesses), customs, transporter, warehouse, terminals and customers.
  • Support supply chain operations initiatives through data analysis and implementation of projects.
  • Develop and implement the logistics work process and systems for the respective countries in Africa.
  • Participate and lead logistics related projects as determined by supply chain leader.
  • Participate in implementation of business or functional initiatives that interface with logistics work processes.
  • Develop and implement Service Provider Management process in respective countries.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for Logistics processes.
  • Guide, train and consult supply chain partners regarding logistics requirements and logistics compliance.
  • Identify assess and optimize the material and information flow across customer supply chains.
  • Participate in identification of customer supply chain projects in consultation with the businesses.
  • Active participation with Industry / Government forums.
  • Qualifications

  • You have at least 5 years work experience in relevant logistics and international trade environment.
  • The critical competencies required for success are interpersonal effectiveness, initiative and proactivity.
  • You thrive excellent in a team and you know the Supply Chain operations.
  • You have technical proficiency in the use of multiple computer applications and sound analytical skills are necessary.
  • You can rely on strong problem solving skills.
  • You identifiy and pursue improvement opportunities within supply chain operations.
  • You learn and follow policies and procedures relating to safety, security, government.

  • You incorporate EH&S (Environment, Health & Safety) policies and procedures into problem solving and decision making, within department, project, team or third party activities.
  • Educational Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree a minimum. Preferred Master's degree or equivalent. Qualification preferably in Logistics, Supply chain, International Trade, Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Significant experience in the Logistics / Supply Chain industry in a similar role would be preferable.
  • Fluency in English is compulsory.
