The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) seeks a collaborative and committed fundraising professional to serve as its first Executive Director of Development, University Advancement .

This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned professional who demonstrates strategic thinking, creative energy, good judgment, and superior communication skills to play a key role in the success and expansion of the advancement program at an institution with an impressive upward trajectory.

The Executive Director of Development, University Advancement, (ED) is a new role for the University, created as part of a larger effort to increase the capacity and infrastructure of the entire Division of University Advancement.

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the ED will play a key role in developing strategic plans and goals for a comprehensive campaign that is scheduled to launch publicly in Fall 2021.

The ED will manage 5 fundraising directors with specific focus. The position will work collaboratively with colleagues in the division and across the University to recognize opportunities leverage existing donors and identify new prospects as well as build strong relationships with local community and business leaders.

In addition, the ED will manage a personal portfolio of 75 principal gift donors.

  • The successful candidate will be both strategic and pragmatic; an experienced manager able to implement a comprehensive, metrics-based development plan for each team member;
  • and a strong frontline fundraiser.

    Minimum Qualifications

    This position requires a thoughtful and proactive fundraising professional who possess strong judgement, a clear record of achievement, and the ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with many internal and external constituencies.

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • At least 7 years of experience in fundraising, as well as a comprehensive understanding of all areas of advancement.
  • Experience building upon an existing advancement program. Success in increasing the effectiveness of an advancement program and its staff through established objectives and performance standards.
  • A clear track record of success in personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gifts from individuals and / or institutions.
  • Proven management skills in establishing a team and goal-oriented environment that empowers staff through active communication and delegation and that builds confidence, promotes diversity, and celebrates achievements.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to balance and deliver on multiple activities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with a variety of audiences; personal excellence in written and oral presentation.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across the institution, serving as a resource to others and obtaining their input;
  • persuasive, persistent, and determined.

  • Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Fundraising experience in higher education institution.
  • 10 plus years of experience in fundraising.
  • Experience in large, comprehensive campaigns is a decided plus.
