RESPONSIBILITIES : The incumbents key responsibilities will include : Providing general student support to students in need of such;
Advising students on module choices, study paths and associated career options;Run and present academic support-related workshops to students;
Liaising with support structures at the University such as finance, student support, residence and others;Share lessons learnt with other Faculty Student AdvisorsWorking with the Higher Education Research and Innovation Division to collect data on student performance.
Co-ordinating FSA related activities during the orientation week for first-year students;Working closely with staff in the Faculty to provide holistic support to students in need;
Assisting with the establishment of holistic student engagement and support in the Faculty;Identifying students at risk of failing modules, and preparing and conducting special sessions / tutorials for them;
andProviding acute support to students with psychological challenges such as suicidal students.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : An honours degree in Educational Psychology or Psychology or Social Work;
Three years experience of as a tutor, mentor or advisor at a tertiary institution.REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES) : Empathy and passion for improving the wellbeing of others;
Advanced level of skill in the use of Microsoft packages, Google Suite of applications and the internet, and a willingness to keep up to date with developments in these packages;
The ability to analyse data and to learn and use technological tools competently;The ability to analyse and use quantitative data;
A good understanding of the degree curricula in the faculty;Advanced Ms Excel skills;Excellent time-management skills;A basic understanding of Higher Education Systems;
Ability to present workshops and conduct one-on-one interviews;Excellent facilitation skills;Ability to manage and follow through on referred cases;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to handle a variety of complex tasks simultaneously, meet stringent deadlines and work under pressure for extended periods of time.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES : A Masters degree in Educational Psychology; Psychology; Social WorkExperience in working with university students in an orientation, advising, retention, student life, residence life, service learning or closely related field;
Knowledge of the UP Campus ecology. The total remuneration package for this package for this position is determined by UP guidelines.
